Foxconn Strike Rumour Denied By Factory Officials

Yesterday a report by China Labor Watch indicated that production at the Zhengzhou Foxconn factory halted over an apparent strike. The employees reportedly weren’t satisfied because quality control standards rose without anyone receiving proper training. With the iPhone 5 orders backlogged by three to four weeks, this wasn’t a very positive sign.

According to Foxconn, reports of employee strikes are completely inaccurate. Officials at the Foxconn headquarters stated that the plant hasn’t had any issues despite two brief disputes earlier this week: (via Reuters)

“Any reports that there has been an employee strike are inaccurate,” the company said in an emailed statement, adding that “there has been no workplace stoppage in that facility or any other Foxconn facility and production has continued on schedule”.

Foxconn said the quarrels happened on October 1-2, and were “immediately addressed and measures taken, including providing additional staff for the lines in question.”

The spokesperson also was able to confirm that Apple has increased quality standards of the iPhone 5 due to the recent ‘scuffgate‘ and light-leakage issues.

Apple is expected to sell upwards to 45 million iPhones during the December quarter, so production of the iPhone 5 needs to increase if the backlogged orders will be cleared by Christmas.

Do you believe Foxconn’s statement about the strike, or do you think they’re lying to keep news positive?
