Dexim BluePack S3, P-Flip Foldable Power Dock Review for iPhone

A main concern for many iPhone users is none other than battery life. When you are glued to your iPhone it gets pretty tough to have the battery last more than a day. There’s no way around this other than to have your iPhone charger nearby, or invest in a backup battery solution.

We’ve taken a look at a few backup battery solutions from RichardSolo before. Today we’re going to take a closer look at two offerings from Dexim: the BluePack S3 and the P-Flip Foldable Power dock. Will these chargers make your iPhone happy? Let’s find out!

Dexim BluePack S3 for iPhone/iPod Touch

The Dexim BluePack S3 is a charging unit that can charge your iPhone and iPod Touch. But the device doesn’t stop there as there are miniUSB and microUSB cables included too (it can charge your Blackberry). The included AC adapter has two USB ports so you can do dual charging of devices. Included is a travel bag too which is nice.

The size of the BluePack S3 is comparable to the iPhone but it’s a tad shorter and thinner. The battery pack itself isn’t that heavy, but with its plastic dimensions it brings a 2600mAh punch with it. This means I was able to recharge my iPhone 3GS fully and there was plenty of juice to spare. There are LED light indicators on the battery pack itself along with an LED flashlight. I’m not sure how handy this for the average Joe, but for people lost in dark alleys at night it sure would come in handy.

The BluePack S3 does exactly as advertised with no real surprises. It will charge your iPhone and iPod Touch and the capacity will give you almost two full charges with your iPhone. As for downsides, I can only mention the cables. It’s a bit of a mess with so many and it would’ve been nice to have seen a retractable cable like the RichardSolo 1800. Aside from that, you can’t go wrong with the 2600mAh capacity of the BluePack S3. Your iPhone will love its new friend!

The BluePack S3 is “Works with Apple” certified for the original iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS, and all iPods (except for the Shuffle).

The BluePack S3 retails for $89.95 and includes $5 shipping to Canada from RichardSolo.com–Click here to visit RichardSolo.com.

Dexim P-Flip Foldable Power Dock for iPhone/iPod Touch

Next up is an interesting unit, the P-Flip Foldable Power Dock. This backup battery solution adds a nice feature when charging your iPhone–it also acts as a dock! The unit itself is pretty compact as it folds up so you can easily carry it in your pocket.

Included is a miniUSB cable and USB AC adapter. The miniUSB cable plugs into the P-Flip, and the other USB end can be plugged into your Mac/PC to charge/sync your iPhone. With a 2000mAh capacity, I was able to fully charge my iPhone 3GS from 10% and there was still extra juice remaining. You gotta love it when battery recharging capacities continue to increase.

The P-Flip can rest as a dock as mentioned, but when placed on its side you can also use it as a stand to prop your iPhone up if you’re watching a movie or video clips. You also retain functionality of the iPhone so you can continue to play games until your eyes water. The bottom of the device has an anti-slip padding to ensure further stability. There are also LED lights to indicate the battery levels of the P-Flip.

The downside to the P-Flip is that if you have any sort of case or iPhone skin, you’re going to have to part ways with it to use the P-Flip. My iPhone 3GS is protected with ZAGG’s invisibleSHIELD. I had a difficult time docking the phone to the P-Flip and it wasn’t pretty!

All in all, the P-Flip’s positives include its innovative folding design, which makes it super compact. The ability to act as a stand makes it a great battery backup for traveling. Dexim has created a free iPhone app, the P-Flip clock to go along with this accessory. Nice work.

The P-Flip retails for $79.95 from RichardSolo.com.
