The Best iPhone Leather Case with Belt Clip

We had some blazing weather in Vancouver a week ago. Well, it looks like Summer is over now. Bring on the rain! hehe. Anyways, I’ve had some people asking me via email what case I’m using for my iPhone 3GS. Let me explain today what the best combination is for those looking for an iPhone leather case with belt clip.

The first thing I did when I got my iPhone 3GS was put on the invisibleSHIELD. Now, the thing with any type of “shield” skin is that it looks great, but over time the edges of the skin will pick up dirt and lint in your pant pockets and cause peeling. The only way to avoid ruining your “shield” type skins is to put the phone into a case.

However, with the invisibleSHIELD full body on, some tight fitting cases won’t fit. I found this out the hard way in the past. But for over a year now I’ve been using a leather belt clip case which has worked amazingly well. If you’re into the whole iPhone-on-my-belt-like-a-gun-holster then this case might be for you.

As you can see from the pictures below, the leather case has one magnetic flap to keep your iPhone secure, and elastic band edges on the sides to easily stretch open to remove or insert your iPhone. On the bottom there is a small opening to help grab your iPhone. The best part about this case is the belt clip is STRONG. It’s one of the tightest holds and can clip onto any belt, or even just pants or shorts.

If you don’t want the case on your belt, you can just easily put it in your pocket and your invisibleSHIELD application will be saved. This case is available from OrionGadgets (with free shipping btw) and is what I’ve been using and telling my friends about when they ask. I’ve tried other belt clip cases but this one seems to work the best because of its secure belt clip and light weight.

Click here to check out the OrionGadgets iPhone leather case with belt clip. It retails for $25US, which is on the high end but in my opinion is worth it because the leather quality is pretty good and quite soft–this is a solid case that will last.

PS – On a side note, I will be holding an invisibleSHIELD giveaway for the iPhone 3G/3GS. Stay tuned! 🙂

Nice review. I'm tempted to get it for myself but for two nagging thoughts:

First, I can't see myself putting trust in a magnet. I tend to jump around a lot and I'm afraid it might get loose. This might be some silly phobia but I would need to modify it to use a more secure locking mechanism, and I'm lazy so that is a no-go.

Second is the fact that it's leather. I'd feel guilty wearing that thing around, poor cow and whatnot.

    Cheers though, happy Friday.

  • The magnet clip is more of a secondary enclosure as the case fits pretty snug. But I do see the fear of jumping around only to find your precious iPhone missing!!

As for the leather…yeah, don't know what to say. Eat a steak or something?! 😉

how solid is the clip? I use to have the case-mate 3g holster. perfect fit, but one day I was fortunately listening to my Wunder Radio, and as anyone know who uses it, it heats up immensely, such that I placed it temporarily in my shirt pocket to help dissipate the heat, vs place it in the closed holster. Meanwhile, my holster fell off my belt. I was aware it was losening. Over time, I find belt clips made of one piece metal tend to lose their shape, and fortunately for me my phone wasn't in at the time. I'm sure there must be some metal clips that are made of higher quality solid metal. Having said that, do you see this clip warping, or somewhat pliable with force? Thanks.

  • The clip is the strongest part of the case. It's very solid and cannot be bent out of shape. My buddy uses the same case and the clip has never been an issue for him or me. The only issue I had was the elastic getting some wear from me taking the phone in and out, but even with that it's a very snug fit.

Nice review. I'm using a mophie juice pack so I think I'm locked into their brand for a holster, but I'll check thus one out.

I'm am looking for a case like. Looked at other similar and I don't like the Velcro lid closer. This is perfect for me. Just ordered one. Thank You.

I use one of these: http://luxmo.com/product.asp?id=4062&t=62

It doesn’t have that stupid x embossed, though. Nice strong dual magnets on the front flap (nice snap when it closes) and has a belt clip AND loops so I can attach it to my messenger bag.

It may do the trick for you…but it is UGLY.

Vaja cases are where the cool kids shop. ;o)

  • Justin

Problem with Vaja case is it does not have a horizontal clip. Hence not applicable for my need to have a horizontal belt clip with magnetic closure.

  • I agree it's not the most aesthetically pleasing, but 99% of the time you can't see the leather case on my belt anyways 😉

…and if the case is compromised, the showing of any random fart app immediately restores my street cred! 😉

  • This case performs exactly like described. You'll enjoy it. It's a no frills case that does the job. 😉

how about a plug for a Canadian product? I've been using the Roots leather holster for the iPhone 3G. It is quality soft leather and I can get my iPhone in with a Solo Fx case on it.
The belt clip is very tight. It's a great case and can be found at The Phone Booth

There has been some concern written about the effect of magnets on the iPhone, yet many of the leather cases have magnets. Have you had any experience in this regard?

    Thanks,

I've tried many cases and holster combinations including the InvisiShield, which I hated because once it's on there nothing else fits on top. I ended up using the Griffin Reveal case which is super thin along with the Blackberry case (9000?) with magnetic flap and swivel belt clip. The phone sits vertically in the case and I slip it in with the speaker pointing up for maximum ringer sound. It's snug, fully protected and easy to access.

Nice design, but i am not interesting in leather cases, i like keeping my iPhone thin and slim, but the leather one may make it a tiny bit larger and a bit difficult to use.
I use a silicon case now . the color is bright and the design is cool, love it very much.
