The Glif iPhone 4 Stand Unboxing and Mini Review

Share:

The Glif is a tripod mount and stand for the iPhone 4. It first made headlines through its funding via Kickstarter. It initially seeked $10,000 to get their accessory off the ground, but thanks to the Internet and their unique idea, the Glif team received over $137,000US in backing. I was one of their supporters.

Small, simple, and elegant. That’s what we were going for when we created the Glif. But out of this simple design emerges countless uses. Mount your iPhone 4 to a tripod for taking great pictures or making movies. Prop your iPhone up for hands-free FaceTiming or to watch videos. All of that and more in a compact design that is manufactured in America.

My Glif arrived just in time for Christmas! Here are some unboxing pictures:

The Glif is exactly as described. Made out of Santoprene (grade 101-87) hard rubber, the small device is lightweight and fits securely to your naked iPhone 4 through light grip pressure. It’s not meant to work with an invisibleSHIELD installed, but I tried it and it was fine. However, after removal my skin was stretched–so it’s not recommended (as per the words of the Glif team).

This mounting solution for the iPhone 4 is simple, light, and effective. It cost me $20US + $3 shipping (this was the Kickstarter price), and I think it’s totally worth it to support the development of such an innovative product. I’m a happy camper this Christmas and I’m excited to use my iPhone 4 with a tripod mount.

This is a useful and simple design indeed! I must re-iterate that it doesn’t work well with screen protectors installed. My Power Support HD-Anti Glare lifted off easily BUT it stayed on for my friend’s Power Support Crystal Screen protectors (front and back installed!)

  • Yup. The Glif teams recommends that it be used on a ‘naked’ iPhone 4. Nevertheless, glad the Glif guys were rewarded for their innovative accessory. It’s awesome.

Thanks for the info about screen protectors…. I won’t be buying it until they make it compatible with them 🙁

Eventhough this does look awesome to have….

    It is ugly!

I bought one of these and when I saw your twitter link for “unboxing”, I thought wtf is he unboxing? There is NO box. And hardly any packaging.
Next time stick to posting unboxing pics of things _with boxes_!

    Grumpy, or what?

looks like a piece of crap, I would never pay 20.00 for that. I will wait until someone comes up
with a better idea, something I can use with a case installed and wont damage my screen protecter or phone

Nice pictures! Looks like you have the same problem as most iPhone users.
That thing looks useless. I could fabricate something for a fraction of the cost and it would be more useful.
