As noted yesterday, Telus now officially unlocks the iPhone starting today, based on a set of requirements and a $50 fee. The Telus website section on unlocking has been updated with information about the iPhone, along with a link to an Apple support page on the process.
Here’s how Telus describes the iPhone unlock process:
Apple iPhone: How-to: Unlock your Apple iPhone for use with other carriers
You can unlock your TELUS issued Apple iPhone for use with other mobile carriers.
1. Call Client Care to request the phone unlock.
2. The Client Care representative will complete the steps to unlock your phone.
3. Connect your iPhone to iTunes and wait for the message “Unlock Complete. Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked. To set up and sync this iPhone, click Continue”.NOTE: NOTE: An Internet connection is required in order for iTunes to unlock your device.
Your iPhone is unlocked.
Sounds pretty straightforward and similar to the iPhone unlock process via Rogers. If you are going to unlock your iPhone with Telus, let us know how it goes for you.

I wonder how jailbreaking affects this.
I realize I can unlock the phone via the jailbreak but I wonder if the “factory unlock” can be achieved on a currently jailbroken iPhone 4? Hmmmm…..
The process is missing a step;
The user must restore their iPhone in iTunes before it will look to the apple server and retrieve the unlock.
The user, if the iphone is jailbroken can also use “SAM” to deactivate the iPhone and thus bypass the need for a restore. I used SAM for both my 4S and my wife’s 4
I didn’t have to restore my iphone but I did have to do Ninjas trick. However, my carrier is Telus and when I put in a Rogers sim (not activated), I get a no service message. Then, when I put back the Telus sim, I still get no service until I re-sync, then it goes back to Telus. I just need to know if this is normal because I’m going to the US soon and this would mean I’d have to have itunes with me on a laptop to re-sync.

It works fine but need to restore iPhone. No message like “congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked” but I tried Fido sim and it worked.

No, you can’t. But if your are with Rogers or Fido, it’s possible

I used my brother’s Rogers account to get my iPhone unlocked. Called them and registered the IMEI number. Called back 30 days later and they unlocked it for $50.

Telus is crap. I called several times and they would not unlock the phone for me unless I am with Telus and have been with them for 90 days. What a sham. Any suggestions on how to unlock it? I have no desire to jailbreak, but if its clean and simple, I’ll take it! help!
I’m in the process of getting Telus to do it by opening a pay-as-you-go prepaid account with them in order to have an account from which they can extract payment.
How did you do with Telus with the prepaid plan? Which plan did you go with? So you have to wait 90 days and then on 91st day, you can unlock your phone?
Did anyone tried Rogers. How do i get it unlocked i am right now not in Canada and not having any account . I bought the phone from craiglist.
FYI, the process has changed slightly for my iphone 5. I just did it today and it requires no computer or itunes, it seems to be done over the air, but you do need an internet connection. What happens is after the Telus rep completes the unlock, you can then insert a new sim, the phone will say it required activiation, you’ll need to connect to wifi and bam, phone is now connected to the new carrier. Not sure yet if it requires wifi everytime as that would suck, I’m planning to try T-Mobile when i’m in the US. I probably won’t be wifi right away, so that would suck if it’s required.

My household has 2 iphone4 s originated from telus but now inactive and I want to unlock them. I probably have to get a prepaid account for at least 90 days to unlock the first phone. If I were to buy a prepaid 6 to 12 months plan for $50 or $100 for the first phone, I wonder if I am able to unlock one phone after 90 days and then change that Telus sim card into the 2nd phone and unlock the second iphone after another 90 days?

I called Telus to unlock my iphone 5, they had me check to see if I had any pending software updates, ( I did not ) they told me they had unlocked my iphone 5. They told me the next time I logged into Itunes it would be unlocked. I have done this and then went to several sites that show my phone as being still locked, ( this could be false as they also try to sell services to unlock ). My phone shows a Telus icon at the top left of my iphone screen, dose this mean it is still locked??
