Telus Stream+ Now Has YouTube Premium, But Families Are Locked Out
Telus just added YouTube Premium to its Stream+ bundle, but there’s a catch families aren’t going to like.
Some Stream+ subscribers spotted promo offers pitching YouTube Premium for $7.19 a month. Turns out that price is actually for YouTube Premium Lite, the stripped down version with way fewer features. The real YouTube Premium only gets a 10% discount through Telus, bringing it down to $11.69 from the usual $12.99.
The bigger problem is there’s no family plan option at all. Telus confirmed the add-on only works on individual accounts, so if your household is already on Google’s shared family plan, you can’t move it over to your Telus bill without losing access for everyone else.
A lot of users on Reddit are saying just skip the promo entirely. Saving 10% isn’t really worth the hassle of cancelling your Google subscription and setting up billing through Telus instead, especially if it means breaking up a family plan.
Here’s a screenshot of YouTube Premium being offered with Telus Stream+ shared on Reddit:
This comes after Telus already raised prices across Stream+ last April, adding $3 to $5 a month to its bundles (to match price increases from subscription services). Right now Stream+ Basic runs $23 a month and Stream+ Premium is $43, which bundles in Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime, which is 15% off compared to paying for the subscriptions on their own.
Telus wants Stream+ to be the one bill that handles all your streaming, but as long as deals like this skip families entirely, that pitch is going to keep falling short for a lot of households. As of writing, Telus has not updated its website to show YouTube as part of Stream+, so these look to be targeted offers at the moment.
