How to: invisibleSHIELD iPhone 3G Install Video Tutorial Part 2

Okay guys and gals, here’s the second part of my invisibleSHIELD iPhone 3G install video tutorial. I posted Part 1 of the front piece install yesterday. It took a while to upload to YouTube so I let it go overnight. I didn’t have enough time to film me pressing down the corners, but I do have some pictures of the corners and how they look a couple days later.

My best advice for the corners is to wait a few minutes for the soap solution to “dry” up a bit before attempting to press it against the phone. Once you’ve pressed down, hold firmly for at least 5 minutes. This will give time for the plastic to “set” against the iPhone. Enjoy the video!

Here are a few pictures of my corners. The IS does attract some dust, but so does every other case (silicone cases are the worst). Some people have complained the IS turns yellow over time. If this happens just email ZAGG and get another set (lifetime warranty). Also, apparently there has been a new back piece released by ZAGG which helps make the corners even easier to install (thanks Ruffdeezy). I’ll investigate and get back to you guys!

I think it also has to do in part with the curvature of the iPhone itself and the plastic being forced to adhere to the corners. I would email zagg and tell them about your situation…if it’s wear and tear causing it, I think that might qualify for a replacement. ;)

Does anybody know if an iphone with an IS will fit in a sena or vaja slim case? A few people have said that the sena and vaja are tight fights so I am concerened that an iphone with an IS will not fit. I like using the iphone without a case (feels better without the bulk of plastic, rubber, leather or silicone) but i dont want to leave it naked or put it in my pockets where lint will stick to the IS. Comments anybody?

Great videos! I have to agree with Zilly about the music :-) I think I’ll order me up a couple / few of these things and give one a try myself. Fortunately I have my 2g phone to use while the shield cures!
Thanks again iPhone Fan! Have a fantastic week!

I noticed the corners are a lot different then the 1st gen. It almost looks easier to do them. As far as the look it is hhard to tell from the pictures but it looks like the exact corner is exposed a bit compared to the 1st gen shield.

I use the elega case for the iphone with the shield and love it. I did have to expand it a bit with cardboard for 2 days but then it fit awesome. But a friend did not have to expand his. Excellent case though. Best in my opinion.

I posted before I watched it. Sure wish I could have heard what you were saying, especially after the 3rd time you pulled it off. The music seemed to get louder and could not make out why you did pull it off again. Or what you said from that point on…..

Nice video although the music was a bit too loud compared to part 1; it really did mask out parts of your instructions.

I am a big fan of the IS; had my first one for the iPod Touch and now have one for my new iPhone 3G. I also have a Griffin Elan Clip case in which the fit is VERY tight before the shield goes on and was wondering, have to tested this case yet and if so, has it been the the IS installed? I am really wondering if the phone will fit once the IS has been installed.

Yeah the back is the hardest part to secure, the corners lifted on mine and now there is lint in the corners. OH and one of my corners RIPPED off while i was removing it from my pocket. I am sad :-(
I am not impressed with the shield.

Hey thanks for the comments everybody! I forgot to lower the volume on the MP3 versus part one…I’ll keep it in mind for the next video! LOL

James: Yeah I also noticed that once the IS was installed fitting it onto tight cases was a challenge.

    @King 1412,

My IS on my 3G works in both the SENA Elega Pouch and UltraSlim case with no problem. Its actually EASIER to take it out of the Slim case if you can believe that!!

Well, I just got this yesterday and installed it on my 3G. Use the water like described in the video, it does make it easier. Also be patient, it takes time. The skins go on fast enough, but it takes time to gently push out the air bubbles, and the corners on the back. In fact, the package says to use a blow dryer on cool setting to help dry the corners after the back is in place to make them stick more. I dod not use the dryer, but i did find that after 15 minutes, it got easier and stuck more. It is looking good this morning. Also, where the corners are, there can be areas that simply will not stick because it is not stretched out. Try and make sure you pull the skins out so that no area sticks up. I had one corner that did this and I knew this was going to cause problems, so I used a scalpel and very gently removed the little extra skin roll. I believe that everything MUST be nice and flat otherwise time will cause mayhem. Good luck.

Just a question. I got the IS and the solution that came with it didn’t seem like there was very much. I finsihed doing the front and there was nothing left in the spray. It was completely empty. I didn’t really over spray yet I have no solution left for the back. What solution is it? Will I have to contact ZAGG for a solution replacement or can I use something else to apply the shield?
