How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 2.1 Firmware with QuickPwn 2.1 (Windows)

If you’ve recently updated to firmware 2.1 (click here for undocumented 2.1 features) and lost your jailbroken status, you’ve most likely heard that the Dev Team has released QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows users! Some of you have already jailbroken your iPhone 3G on 2.1 firmware when QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool for Mac was released.

The file itself is about 16MB and you can click here to download via Bit Torrent. Click here to download QuickPwn 2.1 from an unofficial download mirror.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G 2.1 Firmware with QuickPwn 2.1 (Windows)

I just finished using QuickPwn 2.1 to jailbreak my iPhone 3G on 2.1 firmware and it was the EASIEST jailbreak yet! Check out the following video tutorial of the jailbreaking process. It was very straight forward and the entire process took about 8 minutes or so. In a nutshell, here’s what you need to do:

1. Download QuickPwn 2.1 for Windows.
2. Update to 2.1 firmware via iTunes.
3. Run QuickPwn 2.1 and follow the instructions. You’ll need to know how to put the iPhone 3G into DFU mode.
4. Enjoy the jailbreak! Let the customization begin again!

I must say I did miss having my iPhone jailbroken. I love being able to customize the iPhone to my liking using Winterboard. It makes my iPhone 3G stand out from the rest of the gazillion other iPhone 3G users out there! Expect some more jailbroken app reviews coming your way.

As for my first gen iPhone, it hasn’t changed since I last updated the firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1 via WinPwn. I’ll update it to 2.1 firmware in the near future so stay tuned for that!

If I purchased a new sealed iPhone does anybody know what firmware version it's now shipped with? In other words would I be able to do jailbreak a brand new handset with this method? I have seen a lot of emails here concerning not getting a network after jailbreaking using pawnage on the windows side. Also reading a lot of email abut sound issues with the I phone .
Well I had the same problem (no sound and no clicks or camera shutter sound and only some sounds when ear buds were in ) and it was really bugging me so I reset my phone to factory settings and no fix phoned apple no fix set a date to go to apple store thinking it was a hardware issue walking in to the store and a guy in a orange shirt listens to my story and the first thing he says is turn your mute button off lol fixed the problem.
Now I have no jailbreak phone can't use my most fav app pda I tried 5 times on the mac side going through all the steps always getting an error never being able to open Itunes in dfu mode .So I went to the windows side that was easy got it the first time but no network,tried reseting network setting ,tried 4 or 5 times ever time jailbreak was no problem but no network .hmmm so I went back over to my mac side with my jailbroken I phone with no network went through pwnage and when it came to the part where it says "is your phone jailebroken does it have a pineapple" I clicked yes and bingo I tunes let me install the firmware and I solved the network issue works great hope this helps some people

Mine iphone 3G froze and blinked and vibrated for an hour. I finally tried to jailbrake it again. Except this time when it was asking for me to hold the home button down and then both I just ignored it and opened itunes real fast! Itunes recognized it and let me restore. The it was like a new iphone with no music or video on it so I jailbroke it! Worked in seconds!!! Now I am going to add my applications and music/video!!! After an hour of blinking and vibrating and restoring it is not going to work! Just restore and don't have any data on it and it will be ready in no time!!!:) Now I can not find the iphonemodem app on cydia! Whole differant problem!!! Can anyone help?

Just a little question,

Jailbreak went through flawlessly. But when i click on installer it pops up but doesnt load and just closes. Cydia works, but some of the apps i downloaded just close.

Hey - so im trying to unlock my phone using quickpawn....firmware 2.2 - i have a 2g.
i follow all the steps - and it works fine untill i get to the "hold home button for 5 seconds... "
It keeps saying "wait for your iphone to connect to recovery mode"
i have been waiting for a long time - and it is not doing anything....

Try doing a manual hard reset and that should work...hold down home and sleep/wake.

Do you mean iPhone 3G? If you are already on a carrier, and just want a jailbreak, just use QuickPwn 2.2.5 to jailbreak 2.2.1.

Yes, you can rejailbreak. Restore in iTunes to 2.2, jailbreak with QuickPwn 2.2 and try again.

Ok. so my iphone is in 3g and it's already jailbroken. I jailbroke it using a windows
laptop but then after that my "IPhone" section won't open. So days after, I downloaded QuickPwn here in my Mac laptop and followed the instructions all all that till I get to the very last part. I've waited so long for it to load but then it took so long. So i tried exiting QuickPwn but it doesn't want to. I disconnected my Iphone then tried to turn it on but it doesn't want to? What could be the problem? What can I do? Is it still going to turn on? Plssssss helppp!!

Your iPhone seems to be stuck in DFU mode. Does iTunes detect your iPhone? Try re-jailbreaking again.

I know that this is not the right place to ask this, but I might try anyway:
My friend has iPhone 3g with 2.1 firmware that he got in Spain while he wes there on vacation,...the problem is that the iphone is locked to one of their networks and he doesn`t have the related sim card, nor knows to which one the phone is locked to.
I don`t have to say that the phone is unusable (you can only make emergency call, and thats it, no menu or anything else, and you cannot activate it without the related sim in itunes...)

what he would like to do is, upgrade to 2.2 firmware, jailbreak, activate and unlock the phone if possible....

can anyone help...?

Tell him to update to 2.2 firmware in iTunes. Then, use QuickPwn to jailbreak. Next, install yellowsn0w via Cydia to unlock his phone to use in Spain.

I tried to do just that, but itunes wouldnt let me,.... I repeat, I don`t own an usable sim in the iPhoone, (the phone is locked to unknown network) and itunes doesnt reckognize the phone, and thus dont allow me to update nor activate (phone is not jet activated)...
is there any possible way to upgrade without activation?

I tried to use QuickPwn,... but it reports me 2.1 firmware in the phone,.. so its obvious that I have to upgrade the phone first in order to use Jellowsnow, isnt that right?
Or do you think that if I jailbreak the phone to firmware 2.1 it itunes would alowe me to upgrade and restore than?

Try this: Launch iTunes. Then, hold down the HOME button on your iPhone while you plug in your USB cable into the computer--and keep it down. iTunes should recognize your iPhone. Restore, then jailbreak using QuickPwn.

Or, have you tried using QuickPwn right now?

Once its jail borken i can download apps and themes right?

This thread is for firmware 2.1 only so make sure yours is version 2.1 (5F136) under General/About in your Iphone.
Once you jailbreak it, you can install all the apps from Itunes normally and installing any themes from using Cydia or Installer. Yes, you can still transfer songs via Itunes. Hope that helps.

NOTE: i had the same problem as other user had mentioned. i had a brand new iphone out of the box with the 2.1 software already loaded. When i started quickpwn i could not get past the detection of the .ipsw file. it only works if you upgraded to 2.1 from itunes. if your iphone and the 2.1 out of the box, you need to downloand the 2.1 ipsw file and simply point to it. i included the link where i got the file.

everything works great and all of my stuff is in tact

I have a few questions about after you jailbreak.. Where do you go to get the 3rd party apps and can you view them on a pc before i buy ? I am trying to see if it would be worth jailbreaking my phone or not. Are the apps way cooler than the itunes app store? What are some of the positive things to gain by jailbreaking my phone.

After you jailbreak, you can view 3rd party apps from Cydia or Installer. Many are free and some are paid apps. You can view the apps as they have screenshots for viewing before you decide to install them etc. My Iphone is jailbrokened and I did it so I could customized the Iphone to look different from others. Plus if you don't like it just restore it back to original firmware and everything will be back to normal.

I had upgraded from 2.0.2 ( JB ) to 2.1 - first with iphone FW and then through quickpwn with custom_restore version 2.1 without any hassle. smmoooooooth.... it was.Of course I had the TurboSIM unlocked. Pls look for hardware unlock first . If need help send in your request, I will send you the reference to get you further help.

My signal at the house (3g) sux and I still got acceptable, not great, response. Can't wait to try it where I get 5 bars (All the AT&T commercials not withstanding).
