iPhone OS 3.0 Firmware Update Now Available! GO GO GO!

Around 10:15am PST, Apple FINALLY released the much anticipated firmware 3.0 update via iTunes! Many people stayed up last night to midnight thinking it would be released then, but were disappointed! Seems like Apple will release their updates when they want to!

Anyways, my iPhone 3G is now being updated to firmware 3.0. I ran into the following error upon my first attempt at the update:

The iPhone “Gary’s iPhone 3G” cannot be updated at this time because the iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable.

After asking the twitter community, it seems this error will go away if you just keep trying the update after it’s been downloaded. Just to make sure, I rebooted my iPhone and restarted iTunes to see if that would work. Then, voila! My iPhone 3G is now being updated to firmware 3.0 (previously was on 2.2.1)!

The iPhone Dev Team should be releasing their updated jailbreaking tools, ala QuickPwn and PwnageTool. Expect these to come shortly. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy exploring all the new features of firmware 3.0.

    Big Question, i just updated mine to 3.0 with rogers and its working fine. My gril friend came from New York with her AT&T and i tried updating her’s too but it is showing itunes with usb cable sign and allowing me to make emergency calls only. Why is this so? is it because AT&T can not find it’s network here? so should she be waiting until she gets back to States? I don’t know why because her iphone is locked to AT&T and her simcard is also AT&T. please help!!! thank you so much in advance

    I called Fido and they said that I need to unblock data in order to use MMS??? I already pay for a value pack that includes 1000 MMS, but it won’t work. Any way around this?

    Fido 5.0 Carrier Bundle (Modified to allow editing APN settings)

    This carrier bundle does NOT fix MMS, instead it allows editing the APN settings which WILL fix MMS (for those of you who are still having issues)

    Keep in mind, I spent 6 hours on the phone with Fido diagnosing the MMS issue and I finally resolved it without their assistance. In fact, they requested I forward this information onto them.

    That’s the 4.1 settings file modified to be 5.0 compliant, with APN editing enabled.

    Once you’ve got that one, editing the MMS APN settings to the standard internet.fido.ca/fido/fido settings will cause MMS to start working as intended.

    umm because her Iphone 3G is locked to AT&T. Only way around is to unlock 3.0 and the unlock is not out yet till Friday probably.

    The Rogers IPCC 5.0 carrier bundle takes about 30 seconds to get working and requires no additional modification of the APN settings

    My upgrade did not go as well as some of you. My phone was out and I had to restore it and that took a long time. When I synched which took another 2 hours I realized that I lost all my contact information and my sms were all gone and all my downloaded programs were gone (they were not in itunes as well). My photo albums do not show any pictures; when you open the album you do see the pictures though. Anyone had that problem? Anyone knows how to get the contact info back?
