RIM Sends Out Media Invites for BlackBerry 10 Event Set for Jan. 30

Blackberry 10 event

This morning RIM sent out media invites to announce its BlackBerry 10 unveiling, with simultaneous events set for New York City, London, Paris, Toronto and more as part of a worldwide launch. The event date was previously announced by RIM back in November.

BlackBerry 10 is important for RIM as the company attempts to regain relevance in a smartphone market now dominated by Apple and Google’s Android OS. Back in May at their World Developer’s conference in Florida, RIM previewed their OS to the world.

So far we’ve seen leaked images and videos of the upcoming device, along with US Customs changing their minds about switching to the iPhone and trying out the newest BlackBerry platform instead. Last week, we saw higher quality leaked images and video of RIM’s newest smartphone offering.

It’s great for customers to have alternative choices when it comes to smartphones. However, I’m not so sure about RIM’s strategy to continue to flaunt and hype their devices before launch. Who will adopt to BB10? Most likely loyal fans holding out for this launch. Impatient users have long switched to the iPhone or an Android device.

Earlier today, Rogers announced they would be offering BlackBerry 10 in the new year and noted the Rogers Reservation System will let you reserve a device if you want one.

Anyone out there switching to the newest BlackBerry? Is RIM going to come back from the dead?
