Video: Walt Mossberg Slams Adobe CEO Over Flash at D9
Do you still care about the lack of Adobe Flash on your iOS device? Adobe was supposed to deliver Flash for the iPhone but that never materialized. Apple CEO Steve Jobs previously described his ‘thoughts on Flash‘ and why he feels this plugin is an old and outdated technology.
Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, on the other hand feels the opposite. In his interview with Walt Mossberg at this year’s D9 conference, he has declared the war on Flash is over. Not only that, he proudly exclaimed over 130 million smartphones will be running Flash before the end of the year. A bold claim–until Walt Mossberg shuts him down with a dose of reality.
Watch the video below (Walt goes on the attack around the 1:35 mark), which ironically is Flash-only:
Have you used Flash before on a smartphone? How was the performance?

Never mind.

Flash 10.3 works great on my Nexus One
Well I was an iphone user until 2 weeks ago. I now have a Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3 and I will never go back. The browsing experience is so good and sometime better than my PC. I enjoy flash web sites everyday and I dont have any lags, even on 3G with Fido.
I don’t have Flash on my iMac, and I don’t miss it on my iPhone/iPad.
Who cares? Not me…

Lack of flash sucks. For gawd’s sakes, you can’t even view TSN clips during the Stanley Cup! Sport webpages are flash happy. Also, many of my fave entertainment sites I can’t view on iOS. It really is a pain.

The only bad thing about no Flash is the whining from haters. If you make a video, just upload it to YouTube. Problem solved.

and my MacBook Pro’s fan starts to scream while watching this flash wrapped video…..
I hate flash
hehe, same.

Narayen handled this obvious Apple shill very well. Flash runs quite smooth on my Galaxy S – certainly better than not at all.Â
Mossberg struggles to be legitimate and serious in any interview he conducts or column he writes. I’m sorry, but it’s true.Â

Are you talking about you, or your actual computer’s “fan”?Â
I just watched the Mossberg clip on my IPad, using the iSwifter browser. The playback was smooth and glitch-free … better than I’ve experienced with native Flash on Android.
These days you notice Flash missing less and less while using iDevices. And for those times you really need it–like TSN, for example–there’s iSwifter.
