Apple Sold Around 20M Macs Last Year, Rises to Become World’s Fourth-Largest PC Maker

According to estimates from Gartner and IDC, Apple became the world’s fourth-largest PC maker having sold over 20 million Macs last year.

The report notes that Apple sold approximately 13.9 million units in the first three calendar quarters of the year. Gartner and IDC estimate that Apple sold between 5.4 and 5.7 million Macs in the fourth quarter. With these estimates, Apple is looking at year-over-year growth from 2016 where it sold 18.5 million Macs.

For Apple, 2017 was not a record-breaking year as the company sold more than 20 million Macs in 2014 and 2015 as well.

Apple’s growth is rather impressive considering that PC shipments were on the decline for the sixth consecutive year. We will get an accurate number of Mac shipments in the fourth quarter of 2017 when Apple reports its earnings results on February 1st.
