How to Open a US iTunes Account Without a Credit Card

Lots of people have been taking advantage of US iTunes accounts to gain access to apps and downloads not available in Canada. Such iPhone apps like the recently released Skype or AOL Radio. Previously I showed you guys how to create a US iTunes account by purchasing a MasterCard gift card from Shoppers Drug Mart.

Today I’m going to show you how to open a US iTunes Account without a credit card! This following method comes straight from Apple and is for educational purposes only, of course. ;) Let’s get started!

How to Open a US iTunes Account Without a Credit Card

1. Open iTunes and sign out of your Canadian account. Scroll to the bottom of iTunes and change “My Store” to United States.

2. From the menu on the left, click on “App Store”.
Next, purchase a free iPhone app. Try the list on the bottom right.

3. Next, click “Create New Account”, click continue.

4. Agree to the T&C, click continue. Fill out necessary info, maybe use a secondary email. Set a password, security question and birthday.
5. Under the payment options, select “None” on the far right.

6. Fill in the name and address fields. In this case, you can see my friend John Doe is from Beverly Hills, California. :)

7. The next screen will require you check your email to verify the account. Check email, click verification link.
8. The link will take you to open up iTunes. Sign in with your new account. You’ll see a “Congratulations” screen. That’s it!
9. Go download all the free iPhone apps you can’t get in Canada (such as Skype and being able to call unlimited to Canada/USA for $3US/month!!). Plug in iPhone, sync new apps to iPhone. Done. Happy now?

Let me know how this works out for you. Armed with this method now, you can enjoy your US iTunes account without a credit card, or gift card! :)

well it would've worked great if i had a secondary e-mail acct. unfortunately it won't let me sign up with the same one as in canada.

Why don't you just create a new email using Gmail etc?

  • Carole

Hi, I've done this from the UK and downloaded some free Apps with no problem. I'm just a bit confused about syncing them to my iPhone. Surely if I sync using the US iTunes site I'll lose all the stuff that I've synced from my UK account? I must be missing something but I'm not sure what! Thanks for any help.

You MUST purchase a “Free” app inside the USA app store first. Then the 'none' option will appear.

why does it keep say your credit card was declined. please enter valid cc info?when I checked none?

  • dude

Hey, as of October 17th 2010, this works!

As Gary already said “You MUST purchase a “Free” app inside the USA app store first. Then the ‘none’ option will appear.”. That is entirely true. So try downloading a free app and when the popup shows up asking you to login, create a new account from there, and there appears the “none” option!

    Enjoy!

  • Oliveguo

always repeat Your credit card was declined. Please enter valid payment info…
    even though I choose “None”.

  • Solidgray

I did the entire process but it is not sending me the verification email. Please help!!!!! I really need skype!

    Thank you

I just tried this – successfully created an account, downloaded Pandora app from iTunes (had to enable my computer to use the app on the US iTunes store) synced the app to my iPhone and finally, Pandora won’t let me access its music from Canada (using wifi – no phone data package) – bummer.

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca Gary

Install the Hotspot Shield VPN on your iPhone. Then retry Pandora. Search the blog.

  • HAPPYGUY

WORKED EXACTLY AS YOU SAID!!!!!! THANKS!!!!! GUYS YOU HAVE TO TRY AND BUY AN APP FIRST BEFORE YOU OPEN AN ACCOUNT (TO GET THE NONE OPTION FOR PAYMENT)
