iPhone / iPad

Setting up your Shaw webmail account to your iPhone/iPad is simple, just follow these short and simple steps. If you’re adding an additional account with software version 2.0 or later:

  1. Touch the Settings icon on the Home screen,
  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Select Add Account…
  4. Select Other
  5. Select Add Mail Account
  6. and enter your account information.
  7. Select Next
  8. Choose the POP account button
  9. Enter the following information in the spaces provided under Incoming Mail Server:
    1. Host Name – Enter ‘pop.shaw.ca’
    2. User Name – Your Shaw email address without the @shaw.ca
    3. Password – Enter your email password.
  10. Enter the following information in the spaces provided under Outgoing Mail Server:
    1. Host Name – Enter ‘mail.shaw.ca’
    2. User Name – Your Shaw email address without the @shaw.ca
    3. Password – Enter your email password.
  11. Click Save
  12. You will see a message: ‘Cannot Connect Using SSL’ – select Yes

In software version 2.0 or later, Mail can automatically setup many popular POP and IMAP email accounts using just your email address and password. As Mail looks up settings that match your email account you may see a note appear that will describe any limitations you may experience in using your email account.

The above instructions come straight from Shaw, and should now be the best way to setup your email with your iPhone/iPad.

Can we “SEND” on Iphone yet our Shawmail emails?

  • Virage

The instructions supplied above are NOT CORRECT and misleading. It would be great if the author reviewed his / her comments for validity from time to time as he / she is mis-informing the iPhone users … many of them are probably as frustrated with the volumes of misinformation out there. Here are the facts:

For the iPhone to correctly fetch and send emails on the Rogers network while NOT using Rogers email account, the email settings have to define the EMAIL SERVICE provider's INCOMING email server and the WIRELESS SERVICE provider's OUTGOING email server. This two way street is set up on purpose so that users cannot exploit EMAIL SERVICE provider's servers for spam or solicitation.

The correct settings for iPhone 3GS on Rogers Wireless with Shaw email are as follows:

    1. Create new mail account
    2. Select POP (not IMAP) type of an account
    3. Enter Name (user name of your email account ie. for user@shaw.ca would be user)
    4. Enter Address: this is your email address ie. user@shaw.ca
    5. Enter Description: whatever you want to display in your listing of Mail accounts
    6. Incoming Mail Server:
    – Host Name: pop.shaw.ca
    – User Name: user (or whatever following instructions in #3 above)
    – Password: the password you use to check email from your mail account with shaw.ca
    7. Outgoing Mail Server:
    – SMPT: smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com
    – This entry will set it as the Primary Server; click on this entry to complete rest of the details
    – User Name: blank – optional (do not attempt to enter your shaw.ca or Rogers account name here)
    – Password: blank – optional (do not enter anything here either)
    – Use SSL: set to OFF
    – Authentication: leave at default Password
    – Server Port: set to 25

Note: the Incoming Server Port is 110; outgoing is 25

These settings remain in effect EVEN when you are connected to your wireless network. There is no need to setup additional servers ie. the outgoing Shaw server as this likely won't work. The iPhone defaults to wireless connection for all of its downloads etc. and uses Rogers SMTP server for outgoing email EVEN if you are connected to your network.

    That simple!

There appears to be a known bug in the Iphone firmware that does not turn off SSL even when prompted to do so.

This glitch effects Iphones quite intermittently but the trend is to have all of the correct user info and a valid internet connection yet even when the inital set up has concluded things work well when it actually comes to sending mail its a no-go.

Call Mac support and let them know, they might have a fix. Email and internet service providers do not.

I used the instruction above and it worked. But then the next day, get the error “Connection to pop.shaw.ca failed” any idea why?

I am with telus, and my machine at home takes in the email off the telus server. When I go out of town, I turn off my machine at home, so everything is parked on the telus server. What I want to do is somehow view what is on the server, possibly delete some messages, and whatever is left there will eventually get on my machine at home. Also I would like to send emails from my iphone, I would like to copy them to my telus email, as in all messages. Is there a simple way of doing all this.

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca Gary

The easiest solution is to switch away from Telus and the email service
provided by internet providers (ie Telus/Shaw etc).

Sign up for a Gmail account and just enter your login details right on the
iPhone. Gmail has more storage, and if your computer crashes at home due to
a virus, your email will not crash with it since it's being hosted by
    Google.

With IMAP, all emails are synced to the server no matter where you access
them, so you'll never have to worry about dealing with frustrating POP
issues ever again. There's also Push support now for Gmail on the iPhone
    too.

will the settings for the shaw work even when overseas?

Yes. Doesn't matter where you are as long as you have Internet.

Are there specific instructions for shaw email address for Telus wireless customers

  • Dave

NOTHING helpful here. GO AWAY! I LOOKED. Bunch of Virage? and IMAP and European questions. Won't help anyone trying to find actual questions about how to set up a telus send account. Just a bunch of unhelpful geeks trying to showoff their geekology. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

  • Mark

Shaw told me you cannot send shaw mail from your iPhone unless connected to wifi and the ISP is shaw. So not via the cellular network at all unless you use a web browser and ego to shaw's webmail site. So lame.

  • Raypowell

    Works great. Thank you.
    Just a reminder to everyone.
You can only send emails via Rogers outgoing server while on the Rogers network. Same regarding Telus/Shaw.
So, to send emails via Rogers, turn off your wireless first, so it uses the Rogers cell network, or it will just hang trying to send to rogers via the Shaw/Telus network. Rogers/Shaw/Telus thinks it is spam if it doesn't originate from their network and will block it.

  • JOE

    OK Guys…HERE IT IS.

If using email accounts from telus, shaw, ect. on a iphone from bell, rogers, ect…do the following:

Each iphone provider has its own outgoing server to use (for 3g)
Each email provider has its own outgoing server to use (for wifi)

As an example, I'm using Telus email account on my Bell Iphone 3gs.

These are my setting that FINALLY WORK FLAWLESS:

    Incoming mail server:
    Host Name: pop.telus.net
    User Name: <yourusername>
    Password: <yourpassword>

    Outgoing Mail server: (2 Settings)

    1.)
    Primary Server
    Host Name: smtp.telus.net
    User Name: <leave blank>
    Password: <leave blank>
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 25

    2.)
    Primary Server
    Host Name: mail.1xbell.ca
    User Name: <leave blank>
    Password: <leave blank>
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 25

    THATS IT!

    * NOTE: Remember, every iphone dealer has it's own outgoing sever for it to send email on 3g. (bell is mail.1xbell.ca)

    * Also make sure the primary outgoing server is you email provider and the second outgoing server is you phones provider's server.

    * Also make sure they are both set to ON.

Have fun, I hope I relieved a few headaches!

PS: It you bought your phone from somewhere other than Bell, just ask them what there outgoing mail 3g server is…OR GOOGLE IT.

    CHEERS!

  • August_baby18

That is incorrect. all you need is the shaw mail server and your carrier (bell telus ect) outgoing mail server

  • Chad

In that past that’s been my experience too. I was not able to send using the Rogers SMTP server when on WiFi, and of course I can’t send using Shaw’s SMTP server when I’m not at home. The solution was to add multiple SMTP servers. The iPhone will try them in succession until one works. That way you don’t have to turn off wireless to send an email.

Luckily I have access to a university SMTP server that allows me to use it from any network, authenticated with a password and encryted using SSL. This one works no matter what network I’m connected to, and emails still appear to come from the correct account. (I was thinking I could use a Gmail account in this way too, but the problem with Gmail is that any emails sent from their network have your Gmail address as the return address, regardless of how your email client is set up. Since my Gmail address is not my primary email address, I don’t like this.)

BUT, recently I noticed that Rogers did allow me to access their SMTP server even when I was connected via WiFi! I looked at the email headers to see what was going on. Indeed the message was handled by Rogers even though I was connected to the university’s WiFi network. At first I thought this meant that the Rogers SMTP server accepted an email from the university’s network, but that was not the case. The originating IP address was my iPhone’s IP address on the Rogers 3G network, not the IP address on the university WiFi network. (The phone held both network connections and consequently had two different IP addresses.)Looking at the cellular data counter also showed that this email flowed over 3G, even though I had a WiFi connection.

So if you want to avoid unnecessary 3G data charges, don’t have the Rogers SMTP server as the only one you set up. Set up one or more other ones that will work in the list too.

Thank you for the info :) Helped so much!

    Under 7. – clicking ‘on this entry’ doesn’t work. It’s not a link. (iPhone4)

I had to hit ‘save’ and then it got hung up verifying and can’t verify. So I saved as an account that probably won’t work (got that in a window that popped up) and THEN was able to go into settings. It’s still not able to verify.

Not sure what the issue is as I followed the steps.

Arrrrgggh. I have been looking for this for so long. Thanks alot. I wish I found this sooner. damn shaw!

I haven’t been able to ge tmy email to work when not on Wifi …..I followed your intructions and it works now. Thanks so much for helping the I-Phone challenged!

I talked to Shaw’s tech support about this, and they said that it’s because of issues between Shaw and Rogers’ different servers. When I asked about a potential fix to it, they told me that while many of them were iPhone users themselves and were frustrated by the issue, since it’s an issue of compatibility with a competitor, it’s not really a high priority fix for the company.

  • Airbusguy

Thanks so much for the info. I finally got Shaw to work!

  • Budabing

If you do this the reply to will not show up as the @shaw account when sending from your phone only when seeendiong from your computer.

  • Dhyde1

Shaw is like way out of date with its email….like a decade. If you have a pc or mac and an ipad or iphone, you will constantly be reading messages twice. If a message is read in imap, it is marked as read in all places – not so with the pop/smtp solution by shaw. A message read at home is not read on your ipad, nor vice versa. Apparently imap is only available for business customers – for real?

  • studio

I was having the same issue (thought I did). I have Fido and use shaw as my email.
My itunes automatically did the incoming settings so I was receiving emails like a dream but could only send from home.
Well on the 3gs – if you go into the settings for mail, then into Account, then hit the outgoing servers SMTP, you will see a screen that shows the Primary and Other outgoing. The Shaw outgoing is entered as the primary and then Fido was sitting waiting for me and all I had to do was slide it to ON

    - it is right there already I just had to turn the Fido outgoing setting on in the “Other SMTP servers” section. So it will check both outgoing settings and now I have no trouble at all. Little slow sending sometimes that’s it.

I hadn’t updated my Operating System but now have, so perhaps there was an update where this info was added, but I don’t know if that matters.

I can now send and receive my shaw email on my Fido iphone 3Gs no problem.

  • Chad

Actually, I just tested D-duck2′s suggestion tonight and it works. If you go into your Gmail settings and click on the button called Send mail from another address, and verify that address, then set that address to the default one, mail sent after that via smtp.google.com appears to come from your other (Shaw, etc.) account. In Outlook it will actually say it’s from “user@gmail.com on behalf of user@shaw.ca” because the Gmail address remains in the headers also. But when you hit Reply it goes to the Shaw address.

I actually wish, for all the money we send them, that Rogers would simply provide an authenticated SMTP server I could use everywhere, but at least I now know that when my university solution is no longer available I can use Gmail for this. Yay!
