Rogers/Fido Extend $30 6GB Data Plan For iPhone 3GS/3GS AGAIN!

At the end of July 2009, we reported about the expiration and the immediate extension of the Rogers/Fido $30 6GB Data Plan for iPhone 3G/3GS. This Data Plan began on June 9 2009 and was to expire on July 31 2009. On that day, the data plan was extended to September 15 2009.

$30 6GB Plan Extended

Well, Rogers/Fido have yet again extended the 6GB Data Plan but only until Sunday September 20 2009 at 11:59PM. In other words, it expires again, but this time in only two days.

However this time around the extension/offer is different. This offer is NOT for new customers signing up to Rogers/Fido (though I am sure a sales rep will not deny a sale). Instead, this offer is for stores to process any back-orders that they may still have for the iPhone 3G/3GS.

The Problem

I am not sure what kind of operation Rogers/Fido are running here, but a 5-day extension (Sept 15 – Sept 20) is not nearly enough when considering the actual amount of back-ordered iPhones. People are STILL waiting MONTHS for their iPhone 3G/3GS orders to arrive or wireless plans to take effect, so this Data Plan should be extended for another two months at the very least.

While many customers have already ordered the $30 6GB Data Plan, many have not received an iPhone to use it on, like I mentioned above! The problem here is that customers should not be paying for the $30 Data Plan if they do not have the device. Many customers are paying $30/month for Data without an iPhone to use it on because of the less than stellar Rogers/Fido ordering system.

To add to the issue, Rogers/Fido customer care has been extremely resistant in giving customers credits for the $30 plan (which they should be receiving) that are still waiting for iPhones (customers that do not yet have their iPhone because of the logistical nightmare).

The point to understand is that customers should not be paying for a $30 plan which they cannot use and if Rogers/Fido can sell a plan but not a device to use it on, then Rogers/Fido should be giving out $30 monthly credits as well.

In any case, the offer extension is a small amount of good news for those who were getting (or have) an iPhone 3G/3GS and missed out on the $30 6GB Data offer.

The Details

  • Price: $30 per month
  • Data included per month: 6GB
  • Time frame: September 15, 2009 – September 20, 2009
  • Overages: 50¢/MB for the first 60MB, then 3¢/MB thereafter
  • Contract Term: Available on 3 year service agreement only or 3 year renewals
  • Device support: All iPhones: iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS
  • Note: This data plan also makes you eligible for tethering. See more information here.

If you are just getting into an iPhone 3G/3GS from Rogers/Fido and want the 6GB Data Plan, with an eligible Voice plan or a bundled Voice/Data plan (Rogers) (Fido):

  • 8GB iPhone 3G will cost you $99.99
  • 16GB iPhone 3G will cost you $149.99
  • 16GB iPhone 3GS will cost you $199.99
  • 32GB iPhone 3GS will cost you $299.99

I'm with Rogers and just wanted to note that all orders for the 6GB data plan that were placed before Sept. 15 will get that plan regardless of when the devices ship.

But you fail to understand that customers should not be paying for
that Data plan if they do not have the device. Many customers are
paying $30/month without an iPhone to use it on because of the less
than stellar Rogers/Fido ordering system.

You also fail to realize that Rogers/Fido customer care have been
extremely resistant in giving customers credits for the $30 plan
(which they should be receiving) that are still waiting for iPhones
(customers that do not yet have their iPhone because of the logistical
nightmare).

So it matters not that “all orders for the 6GB data plan that were
placed before Sept. 15 will get that plan regardless of when the
devices ship.”

That is given. Of course customers who ordered before the expiration
date will get the plan. The point to understand is that customers
should not be paying for a $30 plan which they cannot use and if
Rogers can sell a plan but not a device to use it on, they should be
giving out $30 monthly credits.

I've been waiting for my iPhone since mid-July. I have the 30 dollar plan for 6GB on there…but I have not paid one cent for it. I never got a bill. So i'm not sure why everyone else is?

That is VERY refreshing to hear.

I was lucky enough to walk into a Rogers Plus store on Friday evening (the 18th), and get an iPhone 3Gs and the $30 6gb plan right away. The rep there said the deal was on for another two days. However, when I tried to go into a Fido store with my boyfriend to sign him up, the customer service rep denied that this deal was extended to the 20th (today), and that it was only good til the 15th.

Has anyone seen this officially posted on a Fido website? If so I'd love to have the link so we can still take advantage of this before stores close today!

There will be no link because the offer is technically not for “new”
customers

Thanks, I figured that. Too bad, but I guess I happened to luck out with my sales rep on Friday who worked the system in my favor. (Both my bf and I are existing Rogers/fido customers, neither of us had iPhones on backorder.)

i dont need this, any of this. I am with rogers but their recent price increases, additional charges, crappy service, and HATING ITS CUSTOMERS because they dont have any serious competition, im gonna pay their ridiculous ETF and GTFO of my contract.

Rogers has successfully driven me from contracts. Now I have to get a stinking prepaid.

Rogers who owns Fido has started to f__k with my phone. They told me to dial#2070 when I called their number, which is now in the US. Then, they started to try to charge me roaming fees when I called a friend who lives 5 blocks from me. I sent a text msg to one number and I got a text msg from 4710 which is Fido’s text msg number telling me I owed .25 for a txt msg which they stupidly wanted to convert to a voice mail msge. I called Rogers and they asked me who my phone was with. Told them it was none of their business. One screw up after another. Amounts to harassment. 22 Apr 2014
