Rogers/Fido To Increase International Text Messaging Rate On May 4, 2010

Effective May 4, 2010, Rogers/Fido will be increasing the price of sent international text messages by $0.10, from $0.25 to $0.35 per sent international text message. The price change applies to both prepaid and postpaid customers:

  • The pay-per-use rate for received international text messages will stay the same at $0.15 per received message.
  • The pay-per-use rate for sent text messages to the USA will also remain the same at $0.25 per sent message and $0.15 per received message.
  • If you currently subscribe to a text message/messaging package (such as a $10 international text message bundle), those customers are not affected by the international text message change listed above.

International Text Message Plans

If you do a lot of international text messages and this rate change will hit you hard, you may want to consider an International Text Messaging plan. While this is not the best solution, it may save you some money each month.

Rogers/Fido have International Text Message plans starting at $4.00 per month for postpaid customers. For prepaid customers, Rogers has a $6.00 per month package and Fido prepaid customers have a $0.50 per day rate for 50 sent international text messages.

For more information on the message price increase, postpaid customers, check out your monthly invoice for a message beginning March 4, 2010. Prepaid customers, watch your device for a text message notification beginning March 22, 2010.

Fido doesn't currently charge for incoming international text messages (at least from the states) is this changing?

If your plan covers it, then no charge.
At least that is what the Rogers/Fido company posting says

Why pierce the skin with the needle VERY slowly Rogers/Fido? Be honest, just charge $10 a text message, that's what you really want, don't you?

Wow! What a deal! Where can I sign up?
Hahha!

Some “high end” Fido plans include outgoing international texts, right? I was somewhat hoping for Rogers to do the same… but I guess that won't happen in a million years.

Bleh…

That's right. If your voice plan includes text messaging, and in this
case international texts, nothing changes for you.

Cool, another reason for me to keep using skype. That's the only thing I miss about my Telus plan, free texting anywhere in North America to anywhere in North america and only 15c to europe.

25 Cents to send, 15Cents to get a reply back Vs. 35Cents a minute for Long distance phone call… cheaper to call now… figure that out…. why not even things out and charge $1 a minute and REALLY screw people over? Forget the foreplay, just go for it!
Then Rogers can start Taxing us on the Data we use by the meg, 500Meg plan you use 150Megs adding a 5% tax to all used Data calling it a “Data Congestion tax” why not? or Raise the Access fee to a flat $10 bucks.. lol i know i probably sound like an idiot right now, but im just ranting on how often rogers/fido have been increasing their rates almost bi-weekly it seems. its never ending

my current plan i pay $67.35 a month after all Tax/charges
my brother on the EXACT same plan got quoted $83.xx a month
and my plan i activated like a year n a half ago. now thats truly ridiculous

im sure some one will try and flame me or something, go right ahead ^_^ i will take pleasure in reading them hehe 😛

Hi, just wanted to jump in and clarify one point above.

“For prepaid customers, Rogers has a $6.00 per month package and Fido prepaid customers have a $0.50 per day rate which includes 15 sent messages (to any destination)”

Thanks!
Mary
