China Unicom Confirms ‘iPhone 5’ to Support HSPA+ 4G?

Will the next iPhone support HSPA+ speeds? China Unicom’s VP gave a presentation at Macworld Asia, and one particular slide apparently revealed the capabilities of the iPhone 5:

Japanese IT news site “PC Watch” tells that, Research vice president of China Unicom, Huan Wenliang, told iPhone 5 will support W-CDMA based high-speed data transfer standard HSPA Evolution “HSPA+” (21Mbps) at keynote speech in Macworld Asia 2011.

The current iPhone 4 supports up to 7.2Mbps. HSPA+ networks are already in place and are advertised as “4G”, even though theoretically these speeds are next to impossible to achieve in reality. LTE networks have been established by Rogers and Bell. We’ll find out on Tuesday at Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” media event.

That sucks, it will not be supported by Rogers then since ‘LTE’ is not the same as ‘4G’ which is only supported by Bell/Telus and Rogers stands to lose a lot of customers if this is true.

Im pretty sure this information is incorrect on the screen grab. iPhone 3G only had a capacity for 3.6Mbps
