While Apple’s iPad has deeply influenced today’s digital learning technology, a recent study shows that using paper textbooks in schools is a lot cheaper than iPads. It seems that paper textbooks in an average high school class currently costs about $180,000 but switching to iPads would cost $430,000. However, some researchers believe that iPad is more cost effective in the long run because the tablet doesn’t need to be replaced as often as paper books.

AN iPad has to be replaced in 4 years? No way
Don’t forget iPad loss due to being dropped, cracked screen, rough handling or being stolen.
I think in this case, Kindle’s would be far more viable and cheaper too. Expensive iPads in schools is a luxury for well-off private school kids.
I’m sure the educational system could work out with Apple to get iPads at a much lower cost than retail, similar to how Microsoft does with student copies of Office and Windows… If you get them used to a certain way of doing things, most people won’t change something they know well or have used for a long time.
