Apple quietly debuted a new, lower cost 16GB iPod touch last night for $229 to bring back an entry level price to their popular device, a $70 lower cost compared to the latest 32GB and 64GB models with iSight cameras.
The Loop reports Apple has had success with its sales of the iPod touch, with sales now topping 100 million units:
Apple told me this morning that it has sold more than 100 million units of the iPod touch since its introduction.
This latest 16GB iPod touch refresh ensures it will be capable of running iOS 7 and beyond. Only the iPod shuffle and iPod classic models lack the latest Lightning connector. Even though there is no camera, it is a much lower cost of entry into the App Store. So that means parents will most definitely be considering these models for their children as entertainment/gaming devices.
