With the release of OS X Mavericks, Apple has hidden away a bunch of gorgeous, high resolution wallpapers in a secret location, which are actually intended to be used for default OS X screen savers. Luckily, Lifehacker has shown us how to access these 43 beautiful wallpapers for use as background images on your Mac desktop. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1:
Press Command+Shift+G from your desktop to bring up the “Go to Folder” menu.
Step 2:
Now type in: /Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections/
Step 3:
This will open the folder where the high resolution Mavericks screen saver wallpapers are located. Simply copy them all and save elsewhere to use them as desktop wallpapers.

Put a slash before Library and it will work.

Old. This at least existed back to Lion.
Also, I believe that retina displays for coming to the Mac desktop. Mavericks includes wallpapers double the size of my 27-in iMac: 5120×2880!!!
