iPhone 4 Users: Find Out If iOS 7.1 Is Worth The Upgrade [CHART]

Today Apple released iOS 7.1 for download and part of the release notes included “Improved performance for iPhone 4”.

The four-year old iPhone 4 still is being supported in iOS 7.1 and Ars Technica took the time to compare performance numbers in the latest release versus iOS 7.0 (which was very buggy at launch) and iOS 6.1.3.

Check out the chart below:

The numbers below measure the time between when the app icon is tapped and when the app becomes ready for user input. Each app’s launch time was measured three times and averaged. The apps were force-quit using the iOS multitasking interface between runs.

Ars says for those planning to stay with the iPhone 4 for another year, iOS 7.1, most likely the last update for this model “makes performance tolerable enough that using the phone isn’t unbearable.”

Let us know how you’re liking or hating iOS 7.1 on your iPhone 4 in the comments and whether you found any noticeable speed improvements as stated.

I stand corrected! Just goes to show you how iPhones stand the test of time! I still have my iPhone 4 but it’s been stored away.

My iPhone 4 does everything fine, don’t really notice any difference in 7.1. In daily use is anyone really going to notice 0.5s difference in an application opening. If 0.5s is the difference between something being tolerable and unbearable then as a society we are screwed. lol

My 4 is definitely more usable now, less frustrating.

I still have a 4, that stupid notice beside the Settings app is driving me nuts. I don’t want to upgrade to 7.1 but maybe it’s okay now.
I’m waiting for a 5″ or larger screen before I get a new phone. If the iphone 6 is under 5″, I’ll go for an Android.
