iPhone 5 and iPad 2 Still The Most Popular Apple Devices

With Apple expected to announce two new iPhones at tomorrow’s special media event, an interesting fact is highlighted by leading analytics and marketing platform for mobile and web apps Localystics that 3.5 years after its launch, the iPad 2 is still the most popular iPad model, while the iPhone 5 manages to edge out the iPhone 5s as the most popular iPhone model.

The iPad 2 still enjoys its spot as the most popular model with a 29% share of all iPads, while the iPhone 5, which was launched in 2012, remains Apple’s most popular smartphone with a 27% share, though only leads its successor, the iPhone 5s, by a small (2%) margin. According to the source, this is largely because most iPhones come with a cheaper price if the consumer locks into a 2-year contract, which puts the average consumer on a 2-year upgrade cycle.

“With the new iPhones expected to be available for purchase later this month, the iPhone 6 will likely eat into the iPhone 5’s market share. Compared to the iPhones, where the two-year-old iPhone 5 only slightly edges out the most recent iPhone iteration, it seems that older iPads have more staying power. There are several reasons why this could be the case. The iPad 2 wasn’t discontinued until March 2014, three years after it was originally released. Also, unlike iPhones, iPads are not locked into carrier contracts, giving them a longer lifespan than a traditional smartphone.”

While history suggests that Apple will announce new iPads in late October, it will be interesting to see if Apple continues this trend given the stickiness of older models.

I think the iPhone 5 is still higher than the iPhone 5S due to the introduction of the iPhone 5C … It stole some sales for sure.

Probably cause the real major difference between 5 and 5s is TouchID, which people can do without. Everything else (speedier, 64 bit, camera effects) are not really as important to the average user. Especially since iOS 7 runs perfectly fine on the 5.

By this time, 2 years ago when the iPhone 5 was going to be introduced, I was desperate of upgrading my iPhone 4 because it was slow, and driving me mad. Now, two years later, the story is different. My iP5 is still running smooth, does what I need so I must see a very compelling reason why to upgrade my phone to the latest and greatest since I am in no rush to upgrade my phone this time.

Same here. So far, nothing from what we’ve heard really interest me to a “must buy” level yet. A bigger screen is nice, but comfy one hand use is unbeatable.

They really did a great job with the iPhone 5 … It’s a solid phone.

Major iOS upgrade will most likely slow down older devices.

Still on iOS 6.1.4 on iPhone 5 with iTunes 10.7. So many syncing issues avoided and on the issue of disaster, the iOS 7 music app and iTunes 11, what was Apple thinking! I don’t intend to do any updates until Apple has fixed their own self inflicted mess.

Where are you getting this from? I’ve never experienced what you speak of …

iPhone 5 7.1.2
iTunes 12
OSX Yosemite

I have experienced this issue with my iPhone 5S alot. What happens is that the music simply doesn’t sync to my iPhone, whatever I do. I needed to create a playlist for that and it was such a hassle to finally be able to get my music.

I’ve never had this problem … Now I do select albums individually to sync so maybe that’s the difference?

Maybe, but there is many important threads going on on Apple’S forum about that and they don’t seem to give a fck.

Just sync by the albums … I do it all the time and never have a problem.

Never heard of what you said. Never had any issues whatsoever. Everything has been working great.

iPhone 5 and has been installing every update since.

So far so good with my iPhone5 running great with iOS7, minus voicemail ‘speaker on/off’ playback issues.

Still holding onto my iPad 2. It’s slow at times, but still happily chugging along.
