iOS 8.1.1 Performance on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Put to the Test [PIC]
With the recent release of iOS 8.1.1, how does the performance fare on the aging iPhone 4S and iPad 2, both running on the A5 CPU? The release notes of the latest version of iOS stated it would improve performance on these two devices.
Ars Technica has performed some tests to conclude performance has slightly improved, but not by much:
On this count, iOS 8.1.1 changes little for users with Apple A5-based devices. App load times are basically the same as they’ve been since the iOS 8 update, and they’re still longer than they were under iOS 7.1—Safari is the only one that shows any sign of change that can’t be explained by the margin of error, and it’s still not a big one.

Slight improvements, but not by much. It doesn’t help these older devices are running only with 512MB of RAM. More videos and test conclusions can be found here.

I downgraded my iPad 3 from 8.0 back to 7.1.2 while I had the chance and from what I’m reading, I refuse to upgrade to 8.1.1. My iPad 3 was practically unusable on 8.0. I will wait until Fall 2015 when I’ll be ready to purchase a new iPad.
