The Late Late Show with James Corden has a viral segment called Carpool Karaoke, which sees the British host sing in his Range Rover alongside musical heavyweights such as Sia, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber and more. The videos go viral on YouTube every single time, garnering upwards of over one hundred millions views.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple has purchased exclusive rights to the viral segment, to be aired only for Apple Music subscribers, in what will be a 16-episode spinoff series:
New installments of the 16-episode series will stream weekly on Apple Music, the $10-a-month streaming music service that Apple launched last year. A premiere date has yet to be announced, but it is expected to be soon.
Apple executive Eddy Cue said in a statement, “We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages,” adding “It’s a perfect fit for Apple Music — bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favorite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride.”
A recent episode which starred Michelle Obama, has already racked up over 32 million views on YouTube. The all-time record stands with Adele, as that episode has 119 million views, while the series has generated 830 million views on YouTube since its debut back in March 2015, and currently has over 6.7 million subscribers.
