Ontario Pokemon GO Player Nearly Struck by Driver–Playing Pokemon GO

South Simcoe Police in Ontario have issued a Pokemon GO safety warning, after a woman playing the game reported she was nearly hit by a car—whose driver was also playing Pokemon GO:

South Simcoe Police were called to Innisfil Beach Park around 2:00 a.m. this morning, after a woman playing PokemonGo reported that a car had almost hit her as she stood in a parking lot. While officers spoke to the woman, the car returned. The driver admitted to driving the car while playing the game, and said he didn’t see the woman while turning.

Police reiterated “safety comes first while using your phone,” adding the driver cannot being charged in this incident, but if an accident occurred he would have been responsible. Pokemon GO players are urged to “please play responsibly!”

Pokemon GO can be pretty dangerous. Last week, a couple Canadian teens accidentally crossed into the U.S. illegally while playing the game, and on the weekend players were shot at by a woman with a pellet gun.

Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. Hey, you gotta catch ’em all, right?
