With the release of iOS 11 beta, developers continue to pour through the release. One feature is called Smart Invert, which “reverses the colors of the display, except for images, media and some apps that use dark color styles.”
What does this mean? Smart Invert acts as an unofficial ‘dark mode’ for iOS 11, allowing those who use their iPhones and iPads in bed to have an easier experience on their eyes, as white space turns dark. While Night Shift changes colour temperature, Smart Invert will ramp things up another notch.
How to enable Smart Invert in iOS 11
Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Invert Colors > Smart Invert.
Apple says “enabling Invert Colors will automatically disable Night Shift.”

I don’t know why everyone is so happy about this. Yes. it dont revert the picture for homescreen, message and photos, but in Safari, its still invert image. So unless they don’t fix that (and I know its possible to do, Google Chrome have an extension who do this) I don’t think its very useful.
People have generally wanted this for quite a while. Since it’s there on Macs, it’s only reasonable to assume it’ll come to the iPhone.
The second is that the Dark Mode feature will almost surely mean that an iPhone with an AMOLED or like type of display is on the horizon, which is exciting for people.
So for this particular case… it’s a plausible conclusion that Apple may have added this as a way to start testing (and allow app developers to test) dark mode in the iPhone without necessarily tipping their hand.
The mac don’t really have a dark mode when only the dock and status bar are dark when you turn this feature on. I will call it a real dark mode on MacOS when stock apps like finder, messages, settings, mail, safari and notes can be dark…
And beleive me, I want a dark mode on iOS for years. That’s why I’m on a jailbroken device.
