Dropbox Brings Mobile Prompts for 2-Step Verification

Dropbox

Dropbox has today introduced mobile prompts for 2-step verification, a feature especially helpful when you have Wi-Fi connectivity but no cellular signal. It is also quite handy in situations where users cannot reliably receive text messages or they simply don’t have their 2-factor authentication code generator or U2F security key on hand.

“We work hard to make security easy, so we developed a new solution you can use as a backup in these situations. Starting today, you can also use the Dropbox mobile app to verify your identity. When you’re signing in, you can have a notification sent to the Dropbox app on your phone, and simply tap a button to finish the process, rather than receiving a text message with a code to enter.”

The new mobile prompts feature lets you access your Dropbox account with two-step verification by clicking on the “Having trouble getting a code?” link after you enter your email and password on dropbox.com. The feature is built on Dropbox’s existing security features, including the security checkup tool launched earlier this year, in order to help users keep their accounts secure as they work.

Mobile prompts with two-step verification are now available on iOS. To see a quick demo of how mobile prompts work, check out the following video:
