CrashPlan Axes Consumer Subscriptions, Directs Users to Carbonite Instead

Cloud backup service CrashPlan has announced it is ending its consumer backup solution, to focus on the enterprise. Here’s what the CEO Joe Payne said in an email blast to existing customers:

Thank you for being a CrashPlan for Home customer. We’re honored that you’ve trusted us to protect your data.

It’s because of this trust that we want you to know that we have shifted our business strategy to focus on the enterprise and small business segments. This means that over the next 14 months we will be exiting the consumer market and you must choose another option for data backup before your subscription expires. We are committed to providing you with an easy and efficient transition.

The company has added an extra 60 days beyond subscription expiry dates to help customers with the transition to a different service, such as Carbonite.

CrashPlan says customers have two options: migrate to their Small Business plan for free for the duration of their existing subscription, and then after that get 75% off for 12 month; the second option is to join Carbonite for 50% off, and exclusive CrashPlan promo offer.

Below is the 50% off Carbonite pricing:
