Facebook Spotlights Growing Canadian Businesses on its Platform

Facebook has highlighted success stories of growing Canadian businesses on its platform in a new Economic Impact Survey in collaboration with Morning Consult. The survey has revealed that nearly 30% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on Facebook built their business on the platform, while nearly 50% of SMEs on Facebook say that it allows them to sell goods outside of their local community.

Over 1.3 million businesses in Canada are on Facebook, with more than 53% of Facebook SMEs in Canada are women-owned. The social networking giant also notes that 40% of SMEs on Facebook have been able to hire more employees due to growth since joining Facebook, while nearly half of all SMEs on Facebook claim to have increased sales because of their Facebook page.

“With Facebook, we have been able to connect with people across Canada and carry our brand into markets that we are not even in yet!”, said Yaya Wang, Brand Director at Leopold’s Tavern. Leopold’s grew because the “eight dudes” who founded it used Facebook “from day one” to connect with customers, according to Wang.

Leopold’s uses Facebook to show off its unique atmosphere in posts, but contests are also a big part of the appeal, too. As are customer posts. Fans of the tavern are encouraged to share daily specials and tag friends, all of which helps spread the world about everything Leopold’s has to offer.

In addition to Leopold’s Tavern, Facebook has also featured other growing Canadian businesses on its platform, including Planet Paws, Vowsmith and Terre Bleu Lavender Farm. To view the entire Canadian survey report, click here.
