Find Out Why Steve Wozniak is Annoyed with the iPhone X
Speaking at the Nordic Business Forum in Stockholm last week, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak backtracked on his earlier opinion that he “kinda liked it (the iPhone X)”, by saying that the new phone’s lack of intuitiveness, specifically the power button on the side of the phone, is too annoying for him (via BusinessInsider).

Criticizing the iPhone X, Woz said that he doesn’t like “when computers and machinery tricks you”. “The power button on the side does different things if you click it quickly, or if you click it twice, and a different thing if you click it a third time,” he added.
Woz believes that the iPhone X power button is an “affront to Apple’s core principles of intuitiveness and simplicity”, as he contrasted the device with Apple’s early products.
He said the phone does different things “if you’re asleep or if you’re awake; or if you’re turned off or on; if you push it and hold it, it does different things; and if you double-click it, it does another thing; if you five click it, it does another thing.”
He went on.
“And if you push it with the volume button it does another thing. And if you push and hold the volume button it does another thing. Just, ugh!”
Previously, Woz has shown skepticism about the iPhone X’s Face ID, saying that he preferred to use biometric identification instead.

Boo hoo hoo… I’m to old to remember how many times to push a button. This guy is always bitching about something. So he soldered together some circuit boards a million years ago, I’m not sure why anyone cares what he thinks in this day and age. Steve was clearly the magic back then as Jony Ive is now…. The multi click side button is awesome. I guess the “Woz” would rather have 20 buttons around the edge of the phone and a slide out physical keyboard. Friggin dufus! Lol
glad someone else is thinking it
Yeah, he is definitely sounding like an old fuddy duddy here.
To each their own, but I personally found the new X to be surprisingly intuitive.
Exactly…..
You miss his point. You have no idea what made Apple great and whats ruining it. You like a milleneal ass though.
So a home button made Apple great? You know button reduction on devices was one of Steve Jobs philosophies…..
Philosophy my ass. Apple kept the home button on all iPhones up until, and beyond his death. Only after the release of the 10th iPhone, did they finally get rid of the home button ROLF.
So you’re saying there’s no way Steve Jobs would get rid of the home button? You know at one point he said iPods would never be on a PC.
Eventually he would of, but not the way of the iPhone X we see today. Think in-screen Touch ID. That unibrow monstrosity would of never seen the light of day.
He would have loved Face ID. The notch would be there as well. He was responsible for some ugly stuff too: puck mouse, G4 Cube (aka toaster), fat iPod nano, iPod shuffle with no buttons… not everything was roses.
Hahaha, oh man.
What is a “milleneal ass”?
Don’t answer yet. Go take your medication first, and then you can try to decipher what you said.
Lol
You proved his point smartass.
No…. the point is that it’s simple already…
Ps- smart ass? Nice… stay classy.
Agreed. It’s not that difficult to understand the differences. Sure there’s a learning curve but there was one from QWERTY to touchscreen. I guess the Woz is happy with the status quo….
Disrespecting the Woz… #millenials
Darn right! Bet you’re a fan of Halt And Catch fire eh?
Lol
Warp, you are a total asshat. Brains have you none. You should have your head kicked upside your ass. You are a disgrace to technological changes.
Lol. Your just like Woz thinks, “when computers and machinery tricks you”…. into thinking your IQ Is larger than your shoe size.
No tricks involved. A matter of respect for those that started the ball rolling.
How long is he going to milk the ‘Co-founder’ label? Apple was just a computer maker back then..and somehow he’s still relevant today? He’s not on the board and not on exec team. Does he still own a ton of Apple shares?
My thought axactly everythme news about him pops up
Original iphone home button did tons of functions with one button as well:
1 press – home
2 press – app switcher
long press – siri
His argument makes no sense
Home button is not a POWER button.
The button Woz is speaking about is not a power button. It’s the side button. Name was change to acknowledge that it has multiple functions plus it can’t power down or up the phone without the volume button simultaneously pressed.
Plus triple click you could set to what you want it to do!
There was no Siri on original iPhone
His argument makes no sense only to those people who disagree with it or are fanbois.
Only ones who agree are trolls hahaha
I’m bothered by his triple chins and LDL numbers.
Lmao
So did the Home button before it. And to add to that, the Home button had a different behavior if the phone was locked (double-click = Apple Pay) or unlocked (double-click = multitasking).
Come on guys, he has a point. The way the power button behaves on the X is not exactly intuitive.
Again, I have an X and I’m perfectly happy with it, but he does have a point.
The X sux for many reasons, I’m not sure that the power button is one of them. I think the main criticism for the X touches on what Woz’ said. They changed too much too quickly and for no good reason except change itself.
I miss my iPhone 6 every single day that I’m stuck using my iPhone 7. Incremental improvements can also be really terrible.
I’m happy with my X. Only issue I have with it is the lack of a headphone jack and the somewhat unwieldy size. The lack of a home button was not only a non-issue, but once adjusted to it I actually prefer the gestures.
People said the same about the change from iOS 6 to iOS 7 (myself included) but as we see, people adapt.
You guys! I can’t believe how impertinent you are being to Woz!!! I can totally understand if you disagree with his position on the iphone X but no need for such nasty personal attacks! Apple and the iphone would not exist without him! He is CO-FOUNDER. He deserves at least our respect if not our consensus .
If you like the iPhone X, you need to believe the following:
– You are smarter than Steve Wozniak (you’re not)
– Watching videos with a notch missing is GOOD and you can’t wait for TVs and movie theatres to adopt this innovation
– Apple cancelling the model early and reducing sales expectations to half just means it’s rare and special.
– Having a rectangle at the bottom of the screen obscuring your content is almost as good as having another notch.
– Having one less port than previous iPhones is great because Apple says the barometric vent needs to be much bigger and that’s very important to me.
– I like having extra steps when using Apple Pay, the old way was much too smooth and easy. The extra fumbling gets me noticed by the cashier.
– Being asked to pay over $500 to repair a cracked back glass is reasonable and Apple is justified in charging it since paying $29 for repairing an iPhone 4 back glass was just too low to brag about. Ditto for the cost of the phone.
– Apple including a charger that takes hours longer to charge with than necessary is great because it gives me an excuse to go to the Apple store again to buy the proper charger.
– Shining invisible lasers into my eyes is a nice addition to my daily routine. Maybe it won’t even cause any eye damage!
