Point Edward Public Wi-Fi Coming, Slated for Summer Debut
Free public Wi-Fi and fibre optic Internet is coming to the village of Point Edward, which is adjacent to the city of Sarnia, in Ontario.
According to Blackburn News, the village partnered with Bluewater Regional Networks to implement public Wi-Fi, which according to Village Chief Administrative Officer Jim Burns, will guarantee coverage for the next decade.
“It will be basically going up Front St., serving Kendall St., and then going across Alexandra St. to the downtown core,” according to Burns. “It will hook up to all of our village facilities, and then it will do Michigan Ave. from St. Clair St. down to Waterfront Park. It will also hook into the arena, and then go back up St. Clair St. towards the Public Works facility here in the village.”

The Bluewater website says “We continue to grow our fibre network with the ultimate goal of providing fully redundant carrier-grade high speed fibre internet throughout Sarnia-Lambton.”
Coverage may be limited near the waterfront, to prohibit users from streaming movies. Burns says businesses will decide what kind of access they’re willing to provide.
The public Wi-Fi network is currently being engineered and designed, with a plan to complete the project by this summer. Point Edward is contributing $150,000 to the public Wi-Fi network.
