Samsung Shows Off its New ‘Unbreakable’ OLED Display in YouTube Video

Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung’s new flexible OLED panel developed with an ‘unbreakable’ substrate has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and today, the South Korean company has shared a YouTube video to demonstrate the durability of its unbreakable OLED panel (via MacRumors).

The display was certified by UL after withstanding 26 drops from 4 feet with no damage and holding up to extreme temperature testing. The display was also subjected to drops from six feet, which is significantly higher than the U.S. military standard, with no signs of damage.

“The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity, and hardness, which are all very similar to glass,” said Hojung Kim, general manager of the Communication Team, Samsung Display Company.

It is believed the Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9 could be the first product to use the new unbreakable OLED panel.

In today’s demonstration video, the unbreakable OLED panel is subjected to a beating with a mallet made out of plastic or rubber, and it withstands several blows without any damage. Check it out below and tell us what you think.
