Camera Comparison: iPhone (2007) vs iPhone 11 Pro Max (2019)
How far has the iPhone camera come since its debut 12 years ago in 2007? We though it would be fun to compare Apple’s first baby versus its latest. So we took out our trusty original iPhone, quickly snapped some pictures and put them up against the new iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The 2007 iPhone has a 2-megapixel rear camera. It’s pretty much blurry at times and very basic.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max has three 12-megapixel rear cameras and the following laundry list of features according to Apple website:
- Ultra Wide: ƒ/2.4 aperture and 120° field of view
- Wide: ƒ/1.8 aperture
- Telephoto: ƒ/2.0 aperture
- 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; digital zoom up to 10x
- Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth Control
- Portrait Lighting with six effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High-Key Mono)
- Dual optical image stabilization (Wide and Telephoto)
- Five-element lens (Ultra Wide); six-element lens (Wide and Telephoto)
- Brighter True Tone flash with Slow Sync
- Panorama (up to 63MP)
- 100% Focus Pixels (Wide)
- Night mode
- Auto Adjustments
- Next-generation Smart HDR for photos
- Wide colour capture for photos and Live Photos
- Advanced red-eye correction
- Photo geotagging
- Auto image stabilization
- Burst mode
- Image formats captured: HEIF and JPEG
The original iPhone camera lens isn’t as wide as the standard wide lens on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. In well-lit situations, the photos from the original iPhone are not that terrible versus the iPhone 11 Pro Max (it could also be my atrocious photography skills).
