Twitter Begins New Tests on Emoji Tweet Reactions

Twitter has returned to the workshop and begun experimenting on emoji tweet reactions once again. This development could enable users to react to tweets with a simple emoji.

Emoji tweet reactions have been toyed around with in the past. As reported by SocialMediaToday, reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong discovered the new iteration of the Twitter experiment. Wong posted a screenshot of the new reaction interface on Twitter.

The emoji tweet reaction appears to offer a small selection of emojis to use including a shocked face, crying with laughter, and the stop sign. It appears to be very similar to Twitter’s emoji direct message reactions, which was implemented earlier in January of this year.

It’s unclear how the chosen emoji will be presented on the tweet itself. Wong theorizes that it could replace the heart icon on the user’s end, or it could possibly come up as a separate panel on the tweet itself.

Additionally, Wong notes that ‘React with Fleet’ is also an option that is being worked on. Fleet is in relation to Twitter’s Instagram stories-inspired tweets that will disappear after time. It is currently only available in a small number of countries.

Perhaps the rollout of DM reactions has inspired the company to revisit emoji tweet reactions. However, as with any in-development feature Twitter is working on, there is no guarantee it will have a wide release.
