As reported by Tesla North, the government of Canada has just surpassed an important milestone for its EV rebate program, with over 100,000 zero-emission vehicles now been purchased or leased under Canada’s Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program.
During a press conference in Ottawa, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said “Canadians continue to remind us that addressing climate change is a top priority and the time to act is now.”
“By making zero-emission vehicles more affordable, we put more of them on the road and reduce pollution in our cities and towns, while protecting the planet for future generations,” he added.
The Government of Canada added over $287 million last fall to continue delivering the iZEV program, taking total funding to over $587 million. Tesla’s Model 3 qualifies for this federal EV rebate.
Canada’s EV registrations increased significantly in this year’s first quarter, with the largest growth happening in British Columbia and Quebec.
Last month, the government of Canada announced it is accelerating the target to end new gas sales by 2035 instead of the initially set goal of 2040.
