TikTok Testing Desktop Game Streaming Software Called ‘TikTok Live Studio’

TikTok has begun testing a new PC software dubbed ‘TikTok Live Studio,’ which enables users to stream gaming content and other applications. On top of supporting creators in publishing memorable gameplay clips on TikTok, the new software looks to take on Twitch head-on.

First discovered by Zach Bussey, screenshots of the software were published on Twitter. Based on the screenshots, the platform is pretty bare. Though, you can point out a number of critical features. TikTok Live Studio does appear to give users access to key components like Landscape and Portrait Scenes a live chat functionality is integrated as well. Users may also be able to pull from sources including Game Capture, Video Capture, Program Capture, and text/images. Lastly, emoji support is included.

Bussey also states that he has spoken to a TikTok representative about the software. According to their reply, only a few thousand users have access to TikTok Live Studio around the world. Additionally, there is no evidence supporting that TikTok will roll this software out to the public. This could merely be a trial run.

When looking at the stock services and perks TikTok Live Studio offers, it’s hard to see strong competition against Twitch, Facebook Gaming, and YouTube Gaming. This is especially true when content creators for those platforms can lean on OBS to run the backend of their stream. That said, there’s no way of knowing whether TikTok could build its own ecosystem of creators and evolve the state of its software over time.
