Instagram Users Can Create AI Version of Themselves Using AI Studio, Starting in the U.S.

Meta’s Instagram has begun to roll out access to its new AI Studio, starting in the U.S. Users are able to create AI versions of themselves within the Instagram app or on the web.
As part of a blog post from Meta, the company details that AI Studio enables users to create virtual versions of themselves. These AI characters can then talk and interact with their followers. These AI-designed characters can answer common DM questions for creators, craft and send story replies, and “help them reach more people.”
“You can use a wide variety of prompt templates or start from scratch to make an AI that teaches you how to cook, helps you with your Instagram captions, generates memes to make your friends laugh – the possibilities are endless,” the blog post continues to state.
Users in the U.S. can begin to create their own AI profiles within Instagram or by going through the platform’s web version. Meta claims that anyone can create their AI character as it doesn’t require coding knowledge or a deep understanding of AI.
Once accessible, users can navigate to Instagram to start a new message or go to the AI Studio website. Users can tap ‘Create an AI chat’ to begin. You’ll then be prompted to create a name for your AI character. Afterwards, you can then start honing in and crafting your character’s personality, tone, avatar, and tagline. Meta includes step-by-step guides to assist along the way.
Meta also goes out of its way to highlight and showcase AI characters made by others including chef Marc Murphy, photographer and videographer Angel Barclay, and actor Rocky Kanaka. Other creators such as Chris Ashley, Violet Benson, Don Allen and Kane Kallaway have also created their own AI characters.
The end goal is to provide users and creators with new ways to interact with their community. Meta’s philosophy is to have AI Studio creations be able to answer questions and even link to favourite brands or past videos. It’s a means of automating responses to their community.
Unfortunately, as its initial rollout is exclusive to the U.S., we’ve not been able to test AI Studio ourselves. There’s currently no word on when or if a wider release will occur. So, unfortunately, access within Canada will have to wait.
