Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2 Premieres December 26, Final Season to Arrive in 2025

Netflix has announced that the critically acclaimed series Squid Game is returning later this year, with a final season set in 2025.

Coinciding with the Olympic Games in Paris, Netflix dropped its first teaser for Squid Game Season 2. The video, while short and sweet, ended with the confirmation that the series returns on December 26th, 2024. While seemingly starting as a relay race, the contestants brilliantly transition into the green tracksuits before the pink soldiers are shown on screen. It’s a clever little marketing tie-in with the summer Olympics.

On top of that, Squid Game executive producer, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk also revealed that the series will come to an end with its final season in 2025.

Take a look at the one-minute-long teaser below.

In the video’s description, Dong-hyuk writes, “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.” He continues, “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come. Thank you, always, and see you soon, everyone.”

Squid Game Season 2 drops over three years after the debut of the first season. In 2021, the South Korean series became a global phenomenon. In 2024, the series still ranks first as a Netflix series. It broke records with 2.2 billion hours of total watch time within the first 13 weeks of release. The series became such a success for Netflix that it spun off Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality competition. The reality show was recently renewed for a second season, with casting calls open now.

The series stars returning cast Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. Season 2 also stars Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri and Won Ji-an.
