iFixit iPhone 16 Pro Teardown: Modular Design Makes DIY Repairs Easier
iFixit’s latest teardown has unveiled the intricate design changes in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, shedding light on their repairability and modular enhancements.

Much like the iPhone 16’s teardown, taking apart the iPhone 16 Pro also reveals that this year’s devices are more modular than ever. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max now open from both the front and the back, a feature that first appeared in the iPhone 14 and has evolved over the years.
This dual-entry design is a game-changer, allowing easier access to internal components without having to remove the fragile OLED screen. For users, this means fewer risks of damaging the display during repairs.
The iPhone 16 Pro’s aluminum-encased battery marks another significant innovation. It adds durability and reduces the risk of accidental punctures during repairs—a common issue with adhesive-backed batteries.
The LiDAR assembly has also made impressive strides in repairability. Unlike previous models where replacing the LiDAR sensor would cause crashes in the camera app, the iPhone 16 Pro’s LiDAR assembly is now fully interchangeable between models, making repairs smoother and more affordable.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max maintain a significant leap forward in terms of repairability compared to previous generations. The aluminum-encased battery, dual-entry design, and streamlined disassembly process all contribute to a more user-friendly experience for those who prefer fixing their devices at home.
Overall, iFixit gave both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max a provisional repairability score of 7 out of 10, which is the same score earned by the base iPhone 16.
