How to Ask Google Lens Questions Out Loud About What You See
As Google continues to innovate its search tools, the latest Google Lens update allows users to ask questions out loud about whatever they are seeing through the camera.

Previously, Google Lens users had to take a picture and then type in their query to learn more about the object or scene. Now, with voice input, you can search both visually and vocally, streamlining the process.
Using voice input in Google Lens is simple and available to anyone using the Google app on Android or iOS. Follow these steps to get started:
- Open the Google app: You can access this feature by launching the Google app on your Android or iOS device.
- Tap the camera icon: The Lens tool is located by tapping the camera icon in the Search bar.
- Point your camera: Focus your phone’s camera on the object, image, or scene you want more information about.
- Ask your question aloud: Hold down the shutter button and speak your question. For instance, you might ask, “What kind of tree is this?” or “What are these clouds called?”
- Scroll through results: Google will deliver a range of answers, including an AI-generated summary and links to websites with more detailed information.

For those enrolled in Google’s “AI Overviews and more” experiment within Search Labs, this feature includes even more context. When you hold down the shutter button, it captures a brief video, offering Lens a more comprehensive view of the scene.
This voice input feature for Google Lens is now globally available for English-language queries.
