Apple Marks iPhone XS Max, Watch Series 2 as Vintage and Obsolete

Apple has updated its vintage and obsolete product lists, categorizing several older iPhone and Apple Watch models under these designations, including the iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 2.

XS MAx

As noted by MacRumors, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone 6s Plus have officially been designated as “vintage” on a global scale.

According to Apple, a product becomes vintage when it has been more than five years since its discontinuation from the market. While vintage devices are no longer guaranteed full support, Apple and its authorized service providers may still offer repairs—if replacement parts are available.

Notably, one configuration of the iPhone 6s Plus was already deemed “obsolete” prior to this update. Specifically, the 32GB version of the device had previously lost repair eligibility at Apple and authorized centers.

Similarly, the aluminum and stainless-steel versions of the Apple Watch Series 2 are now labeled as “obsolete” worldwide. A product moves to the obsolete category when seven years have passed since its removal from Apple’s sales channels.

Once a device is obsolete, it is no longer eligible for repair services through Apple or its authorized service providers, with limited exceptions for certain MacBook batteries up to 10 years post-sale.

Series 2

However, the premium ceramic-cased Apple Watch Series 2 model remains absent from the obsolete list, though its inclusion could occur in the near future as Apple gradually phases out aging devices.

For users of vintage devices like the iPhone XS Max, Apple still provides some support depending on part availability. However, owners of obsolete models, such as the Apple Watch Series 2, may need to explore third-party repair options or consider upgrading to newer devices.

The XS Max marked as vintage? Ridiculous. This phone is still having updates and its very usable in 2024.

Notably? When a blogger uses this word in 2024 it's because the content was generated partially or fully by AI.

Hmmm, might be time to replace my Ceramic Series 2's battery. Weirdly enough though, it's still going strong!
