New Instagram Feature Lets Users Reset Content Suggestions

Instagram is rolling out a new feature designed to give users more control over the content they see, allowing them to reset recommendations across their Explore, Reels, and Feed tabs.

With just a few taps, users can clear their current recommended content and start anew. Once the reset is activated, Instagram will begin personalizing recommendations based on new interactions, such as the accounts users follow and the posts they engage with.

In addition to resetting recommendations, users will have the option to review their followed accounts and unfollow those that no longer align with their preferences.

To help teens and parents better understand how to curate their online experiences, Instagram has teamed up with organizational experts Joanna Teplin and Clea Shearer from The Home Edit. This collaboration draws parallels between organizing digital spaces and tidying up physical ones.

Their advice encourages users to periodically evaluate their Instagram feeds, much like organizing a cluttered room, and determine what content still resonates with their interests.

In addition to the Recommendations Reset feature, Instagram offers several other features to refine recommendations:

  • “Interested” and “Not Interested” Options: Users can indicate their preferences by selecting “Interested” or “Not Interested” from the three-dot menu on posts in Explore.
  • Hidden Words Feature: Users can filter out posts containing specific words or phrases in captions to avoid content they find irrelevant or unpleasant.
  • Topic Selection for Teens: In regions like the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, teens can choose topics they’d like to see more of, such as cooking, sports, travel, or books.

The Recommendations Reset tool, which is currently in the testing phase, is set to launch globally in the near future.
