Apple TV+: Severance Has Been Renewed for Season 3

Critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Severance has been greenlit for a third season. Hours after the Season 2 finale hit the streaming service, it’s been revealed that the series will continue.

It didn’t take long before Apple CEO Tim Cook took to X (formerly Twitter) to break the news. “Season 3 of Severance is available upon request,” Cook said. There’s currently no release date for Season 3 nor a tentative production schedule for the follow-up season.

Severance is a psychological thriller series created by Dan Erickson with Ben Stiller on board as producer and primary director. The series stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman, and Patricia Arquette. The series revolves around a small group of employees working for the fictional Lumon Industries corporations where their workplace memories are separated from their out-of-office memories.

In a recent interview with Jason and Travis Kelce, Stiller said that the series likely wouldn’t be hit with another unfortunate multi-year gap between production. Speaking on the New Heights podcast, Stiller said, “No, the plan is not to [wait three years],” Stiller said. “Definitely not. Hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that!”

On Friday, March 21, the Season 2 finale of Severance became available to stream on Apple TV+. This episode closed out the 10-episode run for the season, a one-episode bump from the first season, which premiered in 2022.

Recently, it was reported that Apple TV+ is losing the company over $1 billion USD (around $1.43 billion CAD) each year. While remaining unprofitable, Apple is continuing to invest in original content. This includes long-running series like Severance, The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking. However, it’s reported that Severance has earned Apple TV+ more than $200 million USD (roughly $287 million CAD).
