Apple Advised by Trump Administration to Keep TikTok on App Store

As the Trump administration has agreed to delay the potential country-wide ban of TikTok for another 75 days, Apple has been advised to keep the app on the App Store for the time being.
Apple reportedly received a letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi over this past weekend. According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, the company was advised to follow President Donald Trump’s executive order extending the pause on TikTok’s looming ban.
Earlier this year, TikTok parent company ByteDance faced a potential ban in the US. Originally, ByteDance has until January 19th to sell its US operations to an American company TikTok or face a country-wide ban on the social video app as well as other operating apps like CapCut and Marvel Snap. However, once President Trump stepped into office, he extended the terms, pausing any immediate action until April 5th. Once the time approached, Trump gave ByteDance another 75-day extension.
“The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days,” Trump said on the Truth Social platform on April 5th.
Government officials in the US have scrutinized TikTok extensively. Over the past handful of years, lawmakers have feared that the social video app could be used to spy on American citizens. China. During his first term as President, Trump supported a potential ban on the app. However, throughout the early days of his current presidency, Trump has become a vocal supporter. “I guess I have a warm spot for TikTok that I didn’t have originally,” he said in January.
According to the report, Trump and other officials reviewed a proposal last week from a group of US investors on a potential purchase of TikTok’s US operations. According to sources on the matter, Oracle Corp., Blackstone Inc., and Andreessen Horowitz have all been top contenders for a purchase. It’s also been reported that Amazon has submitted a last-minute bid as well.
