I hooked up with NordVPN on a similar deal not all that long ago. Whether or not the average consumer actually needs a VPN is probably right up there with the question, 'Does a Mac user need a AV/malware program?' (the answer to the latter is 'Yes' – and the two apps do different things), but I thought I'd give it a go.
Setting it up seemed okay (though the requests for accessing parts of your Mac can be a bit disconcerting – especially when no real explanation involved), but once that's done and you've walked thru all the settings, it seems to function as expected, though I've found the auto-connect can be a bit hit and miss, and speed can sometimes be an issue – usually resolved by disconnecting and then reconnecting.
As an experiment, I've tried accessing other geographically-centred websites via their closest VPN node, and that's worked – but I largely just stick with closest, fastest, Canadian node.
I like the app is not based in the US (Panama, with historical links to EU), the subscription covers multiple devices, and it also has the ability to further extend your subscription by offering a link to others (they also benefit from an extension should they subscribe via your link).
I mean, I could probably do everything I need from a VPN through the free unlimited use version of ProtonVPN (based in Switzerland), but we'll see where this goes.
