Mythic Quest Cancelled by Apple, New Season 4 Ending to Premier This Week

The Apple TV+ comedy series Mythic Quest has not been renewed for a fifth season. Apple has reportedly cancelled the series following the finale of its fourth season set for this week on April 18. However, an updated ending for the finale will debut later this week.
As Variety first reported, Mythic Quest’s cancellation appears to have surprised the creative team. The series had just wrapped its fourth season and debuted Side Quest, a four-part spin-off series, which began streaming on March 26th as well. The report also went on to provide a statement from the executive producers of the series.
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” said series executive producers Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and Rob McElhenney. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us. To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over.”
It’s unclear how drastic the update to the season four finale will be. However, it’s a rarity to hear that cancelled shows are able to provide a bit of closure to the series for fans.
Mythic Quest is a series based on video game development. Loosely based on Assassin’s Creed developer and publisher Ubisoft, the series highlights the fictional trials and tribulations of a game studio working on a massive multiplayer online game. The series centers on Ian Grimm, played by Rob McElhenney and Poppy Li, played by Charlotte Nicdao. Other notable stars include Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, David Hornsby, Danny Pudi, and Imani Hakim.
News of the cancellation comes weeks after it was reported that Apple TV+ loses over $1 billion USD (around $1.3 billion CAD) annually. Despite the many critically acclaimed shows like Severance, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and more, Apple is eating sunken costs by operating its streaming service.
