Notion Launches AI-Enhanced Email Client for Gmail Users

Notion is expanding its productivity suite with Notion Mail, an AI-driven email application designed to enhance Gmail inbox management (via The Verge).

Notion Mail launch follows Notion’s previous integrations, including Notion Calendar, and underscores the company’s ambition to rival established platforms like Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

The app, currently available for macOS and the web, offers a minimalist interface reminiscent of Notion’s signature design, focusing on simplicity and user customization. A standout feature is its AI-powered organization system, which categorizes emails into user-defined “Views.”

These Views function as customizable filters, allowing users to segment their inbox based on criteria such as receipts, newsletters, or priority contacts. The AI analyzes email content—not just sender or subject—to suggest appropriate labels, streamlining the organization process. Additionally, users can employ slash commands to format text, insert scheduling links via Notion Calendar integration, and reference Notion pages directly within emails.

Notion Mail is compatible exclusively with Gmail accounts and an iOS app is currently in the works. There is no support for Outlook or other email providers, and the application lacks the ability to manage multiple email accounts simultaneously.

It is currently available to all Notion users, with AI features offered under a freemium model.

Despite its limitations, Notion Mail represents a strategic move to consolidate productivity tools within a single ecosystem. By leveraging AI to automate and personalize email management, Notion aims to reduce the cognitive load associated with traditional inboxes.
