LlamaCon 2025: Meta Introduces Llama API for Developers
Meta has launched its inaugural generative AI developer conference, LlamaCon 2025, held virtually on April 29, marking a significant milestone in Meta’s commitment to advancing open-source AI technologies.

A highlight of LlamaCon was the announcement of the Llama API, now available in limited preview. This new tool enables developers to build applications powered by Meta’s Llama family of large language models, starting with Llama 3.3 8B.
The API offers capabilities for fine-tuning and performance assessment, providing a flexible framework for AI development. Importantly, Meta has emphasized that customer data processed through the Llama API will not be used to train its models, and developers retain the ability to host their models independently, ensuring data privacy and control.
During the conference, Meta showcased its latest advancements in AI, including the capabilities of Llama 4. This next-generation model features enhanced reasoning, multilingual support, and improved efficiency, positioning it as a strong competitor in the AI landscape.
Llama 4 powers Meta’s standalone AI assistant app, which offers personalized responses by integrating data from users’ Facebook and Instagram profiles. The app also features a social component, allowing users to view and engage with AI interactions shared by friends.

LlamaCon also featured keynotes and discussions with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The conference served as a platform for engaging with the broader developer community and exploring opportunities for innovation in AI applications.
Meta further shared its plans to allocate up to $80 billion toward AI-related projects this year, aiming to support the development of new AI models, infrastructure, and tools that empower developers and enhance user experiences across Meta’s platforms.
