The partnership aims to utilize recycled neodymium, reducing dependence on newly mined material and supporting Apple’s sustainability goals amid supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions with China.

Under the agreement, Apple will begin receiving shipments of domestically manufactured rare-earth magnets from MP Materials in 2027. To support this effort, Apple is providing $200 million upfront to help MP Materials scale operations at its Fort Worth, Texas facility, which will be dedicated to magnet manufacturing.

Additionally, the funds will support development of a facility at Mountain Pass, California, which will focus on recycling rare-earth materials from end-of-life electronics.

The investment also comes at a time when Apple is under increasing pressure from political leaders and market analysts to bring more of its operations back to the United States. President Donald Trump has publicly urged Apple to move manufacturing to American soil.

Apple’s broader U.S. investment plan, which exceeds $500 billion over four years, encompasses infrastructure development, workforce training, artificial intelligence initiatives, and advanced manufacturing. The rare-earth magnet partnership is a vital component of this vision and is expected to create thousands of skilled jobs across Texas and California.

Following the announcement, MP Materials experienced a significant spike in its stock price. The U.S. Department of Defense, which holds a financial interest in MP Materials, is also expected to benefit from the expanded domestic capabilities, reinforcing the strategic importance of the partnership.
