Dropbox Passwords to Sunset Support Starting in August

Dropbox Passwords will be shutting down its service, starting next month. Over the course of the next three months, the app will be quickly sunset with full discontinuation of support hitting in October 2025.
In a support page, it was announced that Dropbox Passwords will be “fully discontinued on October 28, 2025.” However, a phased approach will be taken that will affect ongoing users. For those who store passwords on Dropbox Passwords, you only have roughly a month before service may be disrupted.
As revealed by the company, on August 28th, Dropbox Passwords will enter view-only mode “in both the mobile app and browser extension.” While users will still be about to view saved usernames, passwords and payment info, you’ll no longer be able to add new ones. The app’s autofill functionality will also be deactivated.
On September 28th, the Dropbox Passwords mobile app will no longer be operational. However, support via the browser extension will still be available, the company confirms.
Finally, on October 28th, Dropbox Passwords will be fully discontinued. “You’ll no longer be able to access or add any saved usernames, passwords, and payment information and these entries will be permanently and securely deleted from our servers,” says the company. The dark web monitoring function will also cease support.
Users are implored to export their passwords by October 28th or face losing access entirely. The company suggests moving data over to 1Password, which can easily import password details and maintain account protections.
To export on mobile, open the Dropbox Passwords app and hit the ‘Settings’ button. From here, navigate to ‘Export’ and tap ‘Export’ to confirm. On a browser, you’ll want to open the Dropbox Passwords extension and click your avatar in the bottom-left corner. Select ‘Preferences’ and ‘Account’. You’ll then see the option to ‘Export’, in which you can click ‘Export’ once again to confirm.
